Wondering about Despereaux?

Posted by Lindy West on Mon, Dec 22, 2008 at 5:06 PM

mouseface.jpgMegan Seling gives it a resounding "meeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhh":

The trouble starts when the queen suddenly dies. That makes both the princess and the king incredibly sad. Understandable. So then the king rashly bans both soup and rats (which are both sort of responsible for the queen's death... sort of).

The rats run away to hide in Ratworld, and the mice go to Mouseworld, and the rest of the people, who can no longer have delicious soup, just hang out being depressed. Then we meet the demented fat girl with a pig nose and a mentally unstable chef who has an imaginary friend made out of vegetables.

WHAT? THE FUCK?

The book was good. Which means the movie is more likely to suck, I guess.

I loved the book. I read it as a read aloud to my 3rd grade class last year.

That Sylvain Chomet was dismissed from this project is enough to scare me away.

Speaking of which, did anyone else know that Chomet (of Triplets of Belleville fame, for those not paying attention) has been directing an animated feature based on an unproduced Jacques Tati script? Am I the only one who thinks this sounds like an event of nigh religious significance?!?!
