Three Cheers for Campbell's Soup

Posted by on Mon, Dec 22, 2008 at 1:25 PM

Campbells-Soup-I-1968-Print-C10089337.jpeg

The Campbell Soup Company recently took out four pages of advertising in the gay and lesbian news magazine The Advocate.

Now the American Family Association is crapping itself:

In the December, 2008 and January, 2009 issues, Campbell Soup Company bought two, two-page advertisements in the latest issues of the nation's largest homosexual magazine, "The Advocate." The ads promote their Swanson line of broth.

In one of the December ads, the Campbell Soup Company highlighted the lives of two lesbians with their son. The others feature New York City chefs. See the ads here.

Campbell Soup Company has openly begun helping homosexual activists push their agenda. Not only did the ads cost Campbell's a chunk of money, but they also sent a message that homosexual parents constitute a family and are worthy of support. They also gave their approval to the entire homosexual agenda.

Sending the message that homosexual parents constitute a family and are worthy of support? God forbid. Lucky for all, the Campbell Soup folks are fighting the good fight. As Campbell Soup spokesman Anthony Sanzio tells OneNewsNow:

"We support all types of families, regardless of how they're defined, [and have done so] for more than 100 years. We advertise in a variety of different media outlets that appeal to a broad spectrum of society. That's what we're doing here, and that's what we'll continue to do."

The AFA is encouraging good Christians to complain about Campbell Soup's alliance with the great homosexual Satan, by sending this easy-to-send pre-written email complaint to the Campbell Co. president. This easy-to-send pre-written email is also easy to revise, so why not send a quick letter of thanks to Campbell Soup right now?

(Thanks to Towleroad for the heads up.)

Seems like a good reason, in concert with the weather, to slog through the snow to the store and buy a shitload of Campbell's chicken noodle soup . . .

I liked how even after changing the words, and letting them know I appreciate their support, it still seemed very angry.

I'm gay for Campbell's Soup. Even if I hated "the gay" I could never stop buying their delicious soup.

Don't waste your time with the American Family Association. Just send an email directly to douglas_m_conant@campbellsoup.com

While you're at it, please let them know that I might buy some soup if they stop putting High Fructose Corn Sweetener in it.

Here's mine..........

"Dear President Conant:

I applaud that Campbell's Soup Company is advertising in magazines such as The Advocate and is ignoring such bogus demands as to "stop promoting the homosexual agenda and remain neutral in the culture war." I certainly hope you will honor my request by continuing your support of free enterprise by marketing your product in these ads, and treating American adults as just that, American adults. I feel Campbell's is not taking sides in a political battle, but simply producing the finest products you can while encouraging all people, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation, to buy your products. Again, like an American adult.

I will NOT await word from American Family Association for your response, as I can decide for myself whether or not to continue to purchase your products.

Thank you and keep up the good work."

Quick and easy changes. Good for them.

@11 I agree with you, but a few years ago they bought an Australian company called Arnotts Biscuits (cookies to your guys).

The best product that Campbells make is called Tim Tams (yes the name is silly but they are GREAT). They are available in the USA and I would recommend that you find them and eat a shitload of them.

Bite diagonally opposite corners off and then use the Tim Tam as a straw to suck hot chocolate or coffee through. You will thank me.

It is a good thing to support companies who are not afraid of us. and it is even better when you can eat truckloads of Tim Tams as well while you are supporting such a company.

Here's mine:
"Dear President Conant:

I am happy to see that Campbell Soup Company is "promoting the homosexual agenda" and embraces the fact that all types of families exist in our society. I certainly hope you will continue to place ads in "homosexual publications" like "The Advocate." Campbell's should take sides in a political battle, and this makes a powerful statement about equality. Please continue to put your efforts in producing the finest products you can.

I will happily pay a little more for Campbells products if you continue to place ads in all types of publications and continue to show your support for all types of families and people."

Dear President Conant:

I whole-heartedly thank the Campbell Soup Company for actively representing families such as mine in your ad in "The Advocate." I use your products often and, (because of these ads) now exclusively for my soup and broth needs.

I will await word from American Family Association for your response, their outrage is a good indication to me that you are doing something right.

Here's mine:

Dear President Conant:

I would like to say thank you to the Campbell Soup Company for being an inclusive and responsible company by placing ads geared to and representing gays, lesbians and their families. I personally apologize for American Family Association's assumption that your products were only to be consumed by and marketed toward heterosexual Christian families.

Kind of makes you wonder how they even came across your ads in two issues of The Advocate..? Seems like your campaign is working. Keep up the good work!

Best Wishes.

Dear President Conant:

I commend you for having Campbell Soup Company support ALL families in our great country! I certainly hope you will honor my request by continuing to support publications like "The Advocate." Campbell's should take pride in supporting the battle for civil rights, and continue to put your efforts in producing the finest products you can.

I will continue to support your company and it's family of products as a sign of my appreciation for you supporting MY family!

Interesting how the ENTIRE spread was about Chefs in NY, INCLUDING the story about the lesbian partners who own a restaurant and use Swanson's broth. Apparently if you are gay you CANNOT BE ANYTHING ELSE. Thank you American Family Association for showing me the truth about myself: I thought I was also a partner, teacher, friend, activist and citizen. Turns out I'm just (gulp) GAY! At least I'm not hung up on someone else's lifestyle....

If you want to stay of the AFA's mailing list, create a temporary/disposable e-mail account at www.mailinator.com (or right there on the AFA's form... simply make up a handle and add @mailinator.com. It's fun and easy!)

Dear President Conant:

I hear that Campbell Soup Company is placing ads in homosexual publications like "The Advocate." The American Family Association should not make Campbell's take sides in a political battle.

I accepted your offer and sent a email as you suggested. It was returned with failure to deliver. If you use AFR letter it will be sure to reach the intended source. Thank you. BTW, here is my letter.

Dear Sir, I recently sent a pre-written email with AFR requesting that Campbell's not take side with the culture war on same-sex marriage. Today, as I was reading some reports about how AFR was in the wrong for sending the letters, I was shocked at the hatred that was shown toward anyone that did not agree with Campbell's for advertising in the Advocate. Is this the type of people ( homosexual or straight) that your company wants to represent? As far as I have seen AFR did not "bash" campbell's for doing this, they just asked that people that agree with them to show their support. I do not know what position you personally take on same-sex marriage, but I ask again, that future ads do not promote such a "hot" issue, one that will until the end of time draw attention from both sides and will do nothing to increase or decrease your revenue. I know that as we boycott Campbell's, others will increase their volume just to counteract, so there is no benefit to your company.

Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

I sent one, too. Big applause for Campbell's, and I proposed a raise for Anthony Sanzio. He deserves it.

But now I must go eat some tomato soup and grilled cheese, followed by TimTams and cocoa.

I love it how you good liberals jump to the defense of Campbells because they are promoting a gay family in their advertising. How progressive of you. But do I really need to know the sexual makeup of a family that is featured in a advertisement? I thought you progressive (read guilty white group-think liberals) were so against big corporations?

Once this recession kicks into high gear all of your pet liberal causes such as gay "rights", global warming (hello, it is 25 degrees right now), etc. will just be a distant memory. The US is going to be going through some real changes and you cry-babies are going to be left in the dust. If all you can contribute is your snide remarks over a grande latte and your elitist attitudes then the country has no use for you. Good riddance.

I believe afa is promoting hate and are asking the christians to do the same. I will pray for them both, I am gay and god does hear my prayers. Thanks Campbell for your thoughts, heres a pat on the back. America stands for FREEDOM and some americans believe they get to choose who gets that freedom. Use gods bible for love and not hate.

@ Macky Wacky:

I love it how you good conservatives jump at the chance to attack Campbells because they are simply showing a gay family in their advertising. How self-righteous of you. But should I really be alarmed or offended by a gay family featured in a[n] advertisement in an GAY magazine?! I thought you conservatives (read "innocent" white xenophobic, ethnocentric, superstitious, free-market-loving, deregulation-favoring, fundamentalist, homophobic, Jesus-fu@#ing, Palin-aggrandizing, education-fearing, science-dodging, bible-thumping LEMMINGS) were so supportive of big corporations?

Once this recession kicks into high gear, all of your pet conservative causes such as protecting the "sanctity" marriage (50% divorce rates and Britney Spears in Vegas, anyone?), militancy with "Merry Christmas" over "Happy Holidays" (hello, it is meant to be inclusive to you AND others, not threatening), etc. will just be a distant memory. The US is going to be going through some real changes and you cry-babies are going to be "right" in the dust. If all you can contribute is your contemptibly unimportant remarks over a Busch© Light and your uneducated attitudes then the country has no use for you. Bon débarras!

My letter....

Dear President Conant:

First off, I grew up on Campbell's soup - in fact, dinner tonight was grilled cheese sandwiches and the best tomato soup ever known to mankind - Campbell's of course. Now, after that great meal I'm taking a second to write to thank you not only for your great product line, but for supporting all types of families, regardless of how they're defined.

I'm referring to the recent Swanson broth advertisement in The Advocate magazine. I appreciated seeing that ad and I applaud your company for realizing that such advertising that targets a wide-spectrum of people not only makes good business sense, it is appreciated and worth thanking you for.

I think it's important, in the face of a potential backlash from groups such as the American Family Association, that you know that I and my family and friends support your company (and I'm sure millions of other American's feel the same way). I'll buy extra Swanson broth (and lots of other great Campbell's products) to help make my point.
