Sled Safe

Posted by Jonah Spangenthal-Lee on Mon, Dec 22, 2008 at 3:12 PM

Looking for somewhere to sled where you won't have to worry about colliding with cars or dealing with beligerent assholes? You're in luck.

The Seattle Parks Department has opened up the city's four golf courses to sledders. I'd recommend the Jackson course, which (hypothetically) you can get to on the 73.

Seattle police say they've already had one car vs. sled incident after a teenage girl collided with a car near the University District last night.

Are there any sleds left to purchase in the city? Kicking ourselves over here for being unprepared. Garbage can lids are fun but we'd love the real thing.

@1: a friend is coming into town from Kent, where she dug out a childhood sled from her mom's garage. I am so fucking stoked.

Also, not to be a spelling Nazi, but it's b-e-l-L-i-g-e-r-e-n-t.

There were about 100 people in Lawton Park in Magnolia today. An awesome sledding hill, lots of jumps, people snowboarding and drinking hot chocolate. If you only had a garbage can lid or cafeteria tray, the neighbors would make sure you got a ride on their dish or flexible flyer (or a spin on their nordic skis). More snow days, please!
