Reading Tonight

There are no readings tonight. If there were readings tonight, they would probably have been canceled. Instead, you should stay in and read Wuthering Heights (available here on a variety of formats, including Kindle and plain-old PDF).

If you prefer books written this century, Alice Hoffman's Here on Earth is a modern-day version of Wuthering Heights, but because it was written in 1997, it's not online in any free legal format. This is another reason to read the classics.

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here.

Disagreed! All of those characters are really irritating people who couldn't organize a fart after a bean dinner.

Wuthering Heights is the worst "classic" ever written.

eeek! "No Bronte but Charlotte?"

I love me some Jane Eyre, but Wuthering Heights is much darker and more brutal --making it the better book, obviously.

Side note, I'll never forget in 6th grade having a teacher look over my shoulder to discover that I was reading Jane Eyre. When I asked if she'd read the book herself, she replied "No, I never read the Jane Eyre books" as if they were an alternative to Nancy Drew or something. Then I called her an idiot.

@3 is correct: Wuthering Heights is filled with assholes who shit all over others and then can't understand why the world shits on them. Fuck those guys.

Jane Eyre is the way to go.

Wuthering Heights doesn't have the Christian moralizing that Jane Eyre does. Besides, WH has one of the best third person narrations in literature.
