"Here is a photo of two 48 Metro buses stuck—1 in each direction—at the corner of 80th and Wallingford in Greenlake," writes Slog tipper Madflare. "Both of these buses are articulated buses. I thought Metro stopped running these in the snow after the lessons learned over the last few days? Traffic is all messed up!"

Amtrak reports problems:

"Heavy snow is still curtailing passenger train service in the Pacific Northwest.

Amtrak's Cascades service remained shut down Monday between Eugene, Ore., and Vancouver, British Columbia. Gus Melonas, a spokesman for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, which operates the tracks, says partial service may be restored Tuesday."

Looks like Portland's MAX system was stymied!

"In Portland, many buses and some light-rail MAX trains ran, though irregularly. The line to the airport closed in the morning because of frozen switches. "

That street is so tight two 48s melded together on dry pavement a few months ago, Blocked the street for quite awhile. I am amazed it doesn't happen weekly..or at least monthly. Not a knock on the drivers: it's just too narrow for 2 buses.

There's an articulated bus stranded at Pine & Boren as well. It looked like it might have crashed into the curb. I feel sorry for the driver.

There were two busses abandoned on U Ave and Ravenna Blvd today around 4:30. Two other busses were stuck further down on the Ave.

Sucks to get around today

I've never understood what, exactly, these buses articulate. The Grand Unification Theory? Treatises on amorality in this post-modern age? Discourses on the source of gravity? I must know!

isn't articulate a racist term?

i bet they are probably still using the articulated buses bc they are getting so many complaints. they feel compelled to maintain service.

i think we should have a little patience...in regards to the articulated buses, perhaps they could be phased out a little bit. but this would take time.

I live in one of those icy Canadian cities and we have been running articulated buses for 25 years. The first few winters were problematic but those buses now run reliably - or would, if not for our fucking transit strike.

saxfanatic @12. I too once lived in an icy Canadian city. The difference was that it was flat as a pancake. Climb a tree and you could just about see from one end of the province to the other. It is the combination of the ice/snow and the steep hills that make Seattle almost completely undrivable on days like this.

Lots of buses getting stuck on Olive and Stewart between 3rd and 5th Ave. Both streets are solid ice from I-5 to 3rd. Tonight and tomorrow morning should be fun driving/busing until things start to melt.

@13 no, that's wrong. It's merely a dearth of snowplows and salt that makes Seattle undrivable. The hills are innocent.

Those buses look like two overweight ballerinas trying to perform the Nutcracker.
