Your anti-pitbull bias is showing. How come you don't report on the scores of fatal grandpa attacks by family schnauzers and pekingeses?

Anecdotal evidence is the root of all kinds of prejudice. It's kind of sad that you guys can't figure that out.

No. I smell coverup. Dig deeper, LAPD; he must have done *something* to provoke those dogs!

@ 4, it's true that these posts are mostly anecdotal evidence, but I recall at least one that had statistics on bites by various breeds. It's just a fact that pit bulls are more dangerous on average than other breeds.

Need a quick gift idea for teh dog lover in your dysfunctional family? Why look no further than the cute and adorable pit bull. They are so friendly that they will tear your face off without a second thought. Fairly docile until the one and only time they attack, most likely unprovoked. Teh dog lover is sure to be excited about bringing teh dog home for all the family to play with, especially teh children. Go out and get one today!

Show me a dog that attacks and I'll show you a human somewhere in that dog's history who has beaten, whipped, and/or trained that dog into aggression using torture or starvation or any number of cruel methods.

May I point readers to the Best Friends Animal Society who are doing wonderful work rehabilitating abused animals?

#8, suuuure. If pit bulls were natural animals that lived in the wild, i'm sure they'd be gentle forest creatures. It's just those evil torturing grampas that make them want to bite kids and animals and old people to death.

Lots of people get pets so their kids will learn about death... I'm pretty sure this isn't what they have in mind.

Gay men are more likely to engage in unsafe sexual behaviors that put them at risk for contracting HIV/AIDS. Some gay men do contract HIV/AIDS and knowingly, willingly continue to engage in unsafe sexual practices. Ergo, all gay men are dangerous and should be banished from society.

This wrong-headed argument is no different than the goofy logic declaring all pit bulls to be a public menace. Yes, some dogs (not just pit bulls, but dogs in general) will attack people. Some HIV/AIDS positive men will *knowingly* spread this deadly disease to others.

The solution in both cases is not to paint either population (dogs or gay dudes) with the same broad brush. Instead, the people in question (gay guys and dog owners) must act in a responsible manner to do their best to prevent unnecessary death and suffering.

And on a closing note... taking glee in someone beating an animal to death is sick. Do you realize that there are people who would feel the same upon hearing the news of a homophobic hate crime? Brutality isn't cool no matter who the victim is.
