This city is pissing me off. It is a little snow people, suck it up. My kids' music class AND their doctor's appointments were cancelled today. Seattle needs to learn to be prepared for this, as we are getting a lot more snowstorms now than they did 10 or 15 years ago.

Rick Warren will have absolutely no power, no hand in making policy or guiding decision-making in Obama's office. It's a symbol - a bone thrown at the far right - and it's telling that they're big argument is that Warren is actually going through with it.

It’s not just the Master-Pastor Jabba the Douchebag Preacher thing. It’s also the campaign finance, domestic spying, federal munnies for religious nutcases, telecom immunity, Joe Lieberman, shitty economic team, and mediocre foreign policy & cabinet appointment things.

Put all those things together, and there’s an unmistakable pattern of continuation of the failed Clinton/Bush policies. The ship is goin’ down and we ain’t got time for this shit.

Apparently, the standard responses are that 1) we're all so naive and stupid to think that Obama is gonna change anything 2) that he's really, really in charge (no, really!) and somehow these actions/appointments don't matter, and 3) He has to totally shut out liberals/progressives and only install right-wing Republitards and DLC Demoncrat idiots because giving anyone else a place at the table would be "too partisan," and purposefully pissing off the so-called Left shows what a wise leader he is.

Well fuck all that. We should have gotten better.

How do you tax itunes downloads ONLY from NY residents?

Hey Blacksheep, it's people with kids that need to be prepared when appointments get cancelled. The world does not revolve around your universe.

Snow is a myth. I don't believe in it. All you people in the so-called "reality-based community" can all go fuck yourselves. Tricky Dick, Turd Blossom and me, we're all sittng here in the all-night afterglow, enjoying the sight of Seattle turning into Miami Beach before our very eyes!

People are so pissed about Rick Warren that it is snowing in Vegas. (Check you link Megan)

@1 Slushy days like today when it first snows are not too bad other than the freeways get really clogged up during the commute. But when this stuff on the hilly back roads starts freezing over several feezing days it gets really shitty trying to drive (i.e. Yesler from downtown, Jefferson up to Broadway, etc.) This honestly has less to do with Seattle drivers and more with a lack of road crews who completely ignore the smaller streets that have big ass hills. But probably in the hillbilly snow town that you come from they don't have many big hills that become a big sheet of black ice after a couple of days because your city knows how to fix them.
The one problem I do think Seattle drivers DO have is they drive TOO slow in the snow when going up hills with the thinking the slower the better.

Why are people more upset over Rick Warren speaking at the inauguration than the fact that Obama has never promised, and does not plan, a full withdrawal of US forces from Iraq?

I want to re-do the primaries!! And Trevor @9, yeah, Obama has flopped on leaving Iraq and wants to gun up the other war.

Obama is going to be a one term president unless the economy suddenly picks up steam....

Barak Obama : the first Black Republican President of the United States!

@ 9,

Excellent point. And there's also the upcoming Afghanistan "surge" into another country we've invaded and occupied for the last seven years with no end in sight.

I stopped listening to Randi Rhodes since she's become a lacky for Obama. I love how "liberals" are not willing to openly question Obama's choices at this point. And there is plenty to question and complain about; plenty.

But just remember when the Republicans win, the Demcrats are totally thrown overboard. When the Democrats win, they appease the Republicans.

We should have voted McCain/Palin just to finally end what is left of the United States. This slow crawl to the end is irritating me.

Ummm did anyone else notice the reference to "thundersnow" in the PI article?! Awesome. Who wants to start a band with me just so we can call it Thundersnow? (Think lightning bolts and unicorns.)

@6, that doesn't even make any sense. What a dumb comment.

Seattle needs to be prepared for snowstorms. That is the issue here.

Barack Obama, this morning:

http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/arch…

Let me start by talking about my own views. I think that it is no secret that I am a fierce advocate for equality for gay and lesbian Americans. It is something that I have been consistent on and something that I intend to be consistent on during my presidency. What I've also said is that it is important for American to come together even though we have disagreements on certain social issues. I would note that a couple of years ago, I was invited by Rick Warren's church to speak despite his wariness that I held contrary views.... that's what this campaign was about....We're not going to agree on very single issue...but what we have to do is be able to create an atmosphere that we can disagree and not be disagreeable....

Marc Ambinder:

...That said, his team bungled this a bit. Reaching out to gay groups to give them a heads up might have softened the edge of their reaction and given them internal confidence that they were valued members of Obama's coalition. Dropping the list (like it's hot), without pre-notice, must have seemed like a sharp slap in the face. The LGBT community is still very raw about Proposition 8, and one would assume that at least someone in Obama's inner circle would be aware of this.

On the other hand, the coverage of gay community outrage accomplishes something tangible: isn't this the first time that Warren's been tagged as something other than a moderate, get-along cleric?

Cooler heads, folks. Cooler heads.

Cooler heads? So David, Obama is going to overturn "don't ask don't tell" as well as DOMA?

We seem to have forgotten Obama's other blunder (posted by Savage on Slog) over the homophobic preacher that campaigned with him this past spring/summer.

But in another context: Maybe Obama should have a member of the Aryan Nation speak on the 20th; you know for balance and all of that other stuff.

Hatred and hate mongers are wrong no matter what the context. We have compromised enough to these pieces of shit and we can't give up any more ground to them. Not one fucking inch.

@16 - I don't know yet. HE'S ISN'T PRESIDENT YET. But he says he's going to and so far he's kept his word on most everything, even when his word has been stuff I disagreed with (FISA, etc.) He's also got 2 wars and an economic collapse on his hands. Why don't you try raising a stink about it and see what happens?

I'm not saying we shouldn't keep the civil rights fight front-and-center. I do think it's a tad early to cash in your chips just yet. Like it or not, 40% percent of the country is backwards and bigoted and we have to reach out to them somehow, in a way that doesn't involve shouting. If 40% of the country were Aryan Nation, yes, it would be alarming and deeply distressing. But pretending they don't exist doesn't make them go away. Fundamentalist bigots are a real, serious, deep problem in this country, a powder keg of hatred that has to be defused carefully. Remember all that stuff in the debates about talking to your enemies without preconditions, and remember how the right was going apeshit when that was Ahmadinejad? Well, this is what "no preconditions" looks like.

Wake me up when something happens.
