Lost Art

Posted by on Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 8:54 AM

As a companion to its Man of the Year package, TIME Magazine has published a lost roll of Obama pictures taken by an aspiring photographer in 1980.

In 1980, when Obama was a freshman at Occidental College in Los Angeles, he was approached by an aspiring photographer named Lisa Jack, who asked him if he would be willing to pose for some black and white photographs that she could use in her portfolio.

Even then, the cigarette...

...and even then, the smile:

I think I just drooled all over my keyboard.

He is exactly the kind of straight boy I would have been all sexually frustrated over at my LibArts college. Hot, sensitive, smart, killer smile, great body, and a rocking fashion sense. Wonder what music he would have been blasting from his dorm room back then?

I totally love the photos. A fascinating glimpse into his past.

The photographer was smart to keep the negs locked up in a safe deposit box until after the election.

Last night I had a dream that I had a giant crush on our new president... But in my dream it turned out that our new president was Anthony Bourdain.

Obama is hot too though.

Damn. The first do-able president ever. It's bit disconcerting.

Go ahead and puke away #11 - nobody gives a shit.

I am just glad there isn't a Vanessa Williams moment in the bunch. Then again, if there was a picture of him with another naked man, too late homophobes, he already got the job!

@13 - Correct. Bill Clinton was...well..."handsome", in a doughy sort of way. Marginally do-able (Monica evidently thought so), but not hot. But Barack is HOT. He just is.
