It's really going to be terrible if we lose daily newspapers. There's so much that they bring to the table that blog readers are too dumb to understand. things were better 100 years ago when everybody was literate, valued the family and was proud to be an American.

b) of all, farr's piece was a bizarrely self-congratulatory piece of what would have been satire had it come from anyone other than farr. hackett was dead-on.

Hackett followed the example of ECB, who routinely and ruthlessly criticizes writers at other publications. Despite her avowed feminism, ECB especially loves eviscerating female writers, some of whom are better reporters and writers than ECB. ECB can't contain her resentment and envy of her betters, especially female ones. ECB especially harbors resentments against reporters and writers at the dailies, who earn much more than her.
On weekends, ECB is a horsewoman, a lover of horses. In certain circles, her nickname is "Enumclaw Erica."

I think Ms. Farr explained it quite well in her farewell piece. She did several longterm investigations (Thesaurus comes to mind) and features (Chihuly). And her Olympic Sculpture Park section was beyond compare.
Ms. Hackett's career has gone, er, differently; she probably doesn't realize how long those things take.
Sheila Farr is a classy lady. Hackett? Apparently, not so much.
