Out of His Hands

Posted by on Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 10:11 AM

I got an email this morning from an artist who does not know how his art got to where it is today. Where it is today is behind a chain-link fence at the corner of Second and Bell.

A zoetrope sculpture I made for the owner of the downunder nightclub in the mid 90's is now planted in an abandoned lot at 2nd and Bell. It looks pretty damaged, but also part of the urban landscape of Belltown. How it got there is a mystery to me.

It was still there Earlier this year, in the Downunder, when I went to a couple of private parties there.

I'll wager it was put out there by someone cleaning out the club space, thinking it was just some random prop from a show.

It's been at that spot for at least a couple of weeks.

It was put there by folks cleaning out the club space. While cool litter, it's still litter.

I think the City needs to slap a fine on the Downunder of illegal dumping!

It's sad to see that lot still vacant after all these years. RIP Speakeasy cafe.

So what you're saying is that it's been abandoned and is free for the taking? Surely someone can give it a good home?

All jokes aside, Andie should be protected under the Visual Artists Right Act. His artwork should not be displayed in a manner that he feels would ruin his reputation or the reputation of his work. But, if he likes it where it is, more power to radom disaplys of art.
