Dissing Chopp at the Dems' Holiday Bash

Posted by on Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 2:48 PM

Josh went to the Democrats' holiday bash at the Convention Center last night (my invite from Dwight Pelz apparently got lost in the mail), where he noticed an interesting button on the lapel of Rep. Brendan Williams, an Olympia Dem whose progressive homeowners' bill of rights House Speaker Frank Chopp has shot down, reportedly at the behest of the Building Industry Association of Washington, two years running:

Williams may have felt bolder than most in openly opposing the house speaker's building-industry buddies; earlier this year, he announced\ that he won't be running for reelection, in part, he told Josh, because he feels Chopp has "neutered the Democratic house majority by cozying up with the BIAW."

The 43rd should dump Chopp and his BIAW pals. No self-respecting progressive voter should have anything to do with the BIAW.

No kidding, I'd really rather see Chopp go. Sad.

Chopp gets 88 per cent in his re-election

sure just dump, so simple

choking the building industry is real smart, there isn't any left

I hate the fuckers right wing agenda, but, they lost big time

the news is the lack of money at all levels of govt., really folks, that is it

Frank sounds hard core about state spending, thank god

Maybe someone will run against him now that it's top two.

Choppway opponents unite!

Actually, the real race in the 43rd, as we all know, is in the Primary.

And nobody's willing to run against him.

As we all know.

Which, given our top two primary, is kind of surprising, as I'd rather have to choose between two Dems than a Dem and a Red Bushie.

#4 why would a thinking political anybody waste their time? not speaking of any money ... for ignominy and being thought stupid.

isn't there some old saying about choosing your battles?

dream on Chopp haters, but, please find an issue to work that does some good for progressive politics, like taking out a Roach ...

A more pointed button:

"I found Chopp's balls in McCabe's trunk"

It is just fucking unbelievable that no one in the 43rd - Capitol Hill, the U District, Fremont - will run against this dinosaur. The Democratic Party of 2009 is very different from the party of 2007, and it is certainly possible to bring down this developer-crony and magical waterfront wall-builder. Seattle is hopeless! (Or is it?)

It is 50 degrees in Los Angeles.

Well, Grant, there's always Ron Sims seat - which will be open on Jan. 21st.

Chopp sucks. He and Jim McDermott together represent all that sucks about the Democratic Party on a national scale, writ locally.

Chopp's a principle-free, machine-powered pork handler and McDermott's a credulous, ineffective crank.

I can't wait until they both retire, seeing as the local citizenry won't oust them and they still control the internal party levers. Until then, I'll be doing my best to retire them every time I see their names on a ballot.

Sweet. Williams gave me that pin last night after I complemented him on it.

The problem is that Frank is no dinosaur. He only gains power every year. He has more energy at whatever age he is than almost anyone I know.

Grant - the first step to power in Olympia is to WIN.

Keep wishing that hipster dream scape works for some.

Frank Chopp is the least vulnerable rep. in the state. Course, there is that butt boy from the U - and an R. I think I remember - you all can support him against Chopp .....

DOES Fremont Public Assoc., Chopp's social agency, ring any bells? It is a model of success, his baby for years, and his salary.
