Not "tunnel or surface". The remaining options are "elevated or surface", which is a lot worse.

Elevated, please. The region simply can NOT take the hit to throughput and mobility that the surface non-option would bring it.

You want to cut off the waterfront from downtown? That's what the surface option will bring. I piss on the "design professionals" who want it.

the "surface" option is over $3 billion?

"No build" is now as much as "build" ??
Seems like you could tear down the existing structure and put up one way signs on alaska and western for lot less than that.

What's the $3 billion for, in the "surface" option?

I think George Bush is actively trying to destroy whatever remains of any goodwill towards him and his 8 miserable years in office. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he burned down the white house on his way out.

Bush has been raping this country, and the world, for eight years and now he wants to kick it to death before he moves to Dallas.

Let's put a second deck over I-5 so four lanes of traffic can bypass downtown.

If these are indeed the only two options, I, a diehard viaduct supporter, will be forced to support the surface option.

The elevated proposal takes the two decks of the current viaduct and puts them side-by-side, which will necessitate taking out dozens of historical buildings. There's no other place to put the thing. It's everything that viaduct opponents have been fearing the worst of, times ten.

The "surface option" is a grandiose surface boulevard that will render the waterfront entirely vacant within a few years, closing down all the pier businesses, but at least it won't destroy any businesses.

If either of these options gets built, Seattle has taken the first serious steps towards a Detroit future. Nicely done, jackasses.

@6 Here you go.

Personally, although it was one of the most expensive options, the cut-and-cover tunnel always made the most sense to me (several of my fellow engineers agree).

There's some Southern US Senators who need to be kicked out real soon - if they're not already heading for the door and just acting like spoiled brats.

They're going to hate the next eight years, while America comes BACK from the dark side.
