Bettie Page

Posted by on Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 9:08 PM

RIP.

bettie_page_pinup_10.jpgBettie Page, a legendary pinup girl whose photographs in the nude, in bondage and in naughty-but-nice poses appeared in men’s magazines and private stashes across America in the 1950s and set the stage for the sexual revolution of the rebellious ’60s, died Thursday in Los Angeles. She was 85.

Great minds think alike. Although i think my photo of Ms Page was more 'tasteful'

I had no idea she was still alive. I tend to ignore her look as most women who do the bang thang cannot pull it off like she did.

There was more to Bettie than the bangs. She was a sex pioneer.
For years, she had no idea that people were making money off her photos and memorabilia. Fortunately, she did eventually obtain the licensing of her photos.
I hope that she went peacefully. You were amazing, Bettie.

Pure sentuality.

When she got "rediscovered" she was pretty adamant about not having her photograph accompany the news stories. She said she wanted to be remembered pretty. So she has transmigrated to a kind of icon status usually reserved for the live-fast-die-young-leave-a-good-looking-corpse crowd even after living to a ripe old age.

She outlived Marilyn by forty years and yet remains no less an icon of her era.

She looks way sexier in that getup than Dennis Rodman would.

I have to confess that I am like Wisepunk. I had no idea she was still alive.
RIP. She was a true legend.

Goodbye Bettie and thank you for helping women out of the drab and into the kink.

She was an alumnus of my alma mater ... Biola University, aka the Bible Institute of Los Angeles. That's my favorite part. The school was so reluctant to acknowledge the fact.

I was never a fan of bangs but on Betty they seemed just right. There is a great interview with her that was written in 2006, after the movie, The Notorious Bettie Page came out. (Great movie! Gretchen Moll should have won an Oscar.)

I wish the 85 year old women (82 when she was interviewed) here in the home were like her. Her mind was sharp and so was her wit.

I wrote a short obit for her on my Blog with several links after I read here on the Slog that Bettie had died.

Below is a link to the interview and a link to her January 1955 Playboy Centerfold. I plan on using it as my Christmas Card.

Sick of every last fucking thing about Bettie Page, but especially the legions of doughy, repulsive hipster women who adopt her mien as a last desperate stab at a fashion before falling off the edge of the Earth into abyss full of other such bonbon-eating muumuu-wearing daytime TV-watching cat-talking eat-attackers.

oh, let's not be bitter! she was a fantastic woman and the world is a little dimmer without her.

wow, they're probably crying up at the antique shops in snohomish. bettie is around every corner up there, keeps it interesting at least while you're choking on the mold.

Better headline:

"Betty Paige Goes Tits Up"

I'd imagine that's being used in 100 different news sites.

Ha! I read #12, and then I looked to the right and right there is Myrna_Minkoff in the Stranger Personals.

I don't know why but that struck me as funny.

The obit in the PI (in the A section!) credited her with kick-starting the Sexual Revolution -- I don't think so, you might as well credit Hitler with that (he started the war which caused urban upheaval in the US and led to relaxing moral standards everywhere); but Bettie's good smile took a lot of the dread out of sexuality for a lot of people.

We should light candles by her image on the house in Wallingford. Be a nice tribute.

she was 85 but her pussy must've looked about 102... That thing would have been plowed more times than an Amish corn field.

#21 She did. Read the interview. See the movie.

WTF is up with the sexist comments at 12 and 24? Assholes.

RIP, Bettie!

@26 - I don't know how it would be considered sexist to point out that she probably had a lot of sex...(which is not a bad thing BTW) I'll probably make the same comment when that old bastard Hugh Hefner dies.

@27 - Hugh Hefner. Now THERE'S a penis I never wanted to visualize. Ew.

I do not want to know the difference, or how this person knows, what an 85 year old pussy looks like and one that is 17 years older

@ 12 - Wow. Thanks for sharing your stink with the rest of us here on SLOG. Such a nice post for an RIP thread.

@ 23 - Great idea! That would make a lovely photograph, too... through the snow...

GodSpeed ya Miss Page! The world is a better place for your having been here...

You guys ae fucking retarded and you can't be bothered to do any research when it's easily available. She wasn't a whore. She wasn't a porn actress. She didn't do any fucking on film. And she was a monogamist. She did "pin-up" photography, some of it more risque than others but nothing that couldn't be reproduced in Playboy.

Yeah, I wrote a little something for her too:

I actually think Dan's choice of picture is 100% appropriate. It's relaxed, sexy & playful: just how she wanted to be remembered.
