Perverted Parenting

Posted by Dan Savage on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 9:31 AM

Hey, Peter? This is what "perverted parenting" looks like.

pervertedparent.jpgAn Oahu man admits he sexually assaulted his infant daughter while a video camera was rolling. Danny Friddle, a former security guard, now faces life in prison.... The 31-year-old shows no emotion as he pleads guilty to 11 counts of sex assault and three counts of promoting child abuse.

His work identification and a video of him performing sexual acts on his baby girl were found in a bag at a bus stop in Kalihi.

"A child came across the tape originally, showed it to their parent, and the parent turned it into the police," Chin said. "It's actually an example of one child saving another."

That story is horrifying, but this paragraph:
As a security guard, his job was to protect the public. As a father, his job was to protect his child.

... does not belong in a news article. Ever.

@2 -- what do you mean?

It's just as sensationalistic as the photo accompanying the article in Dan's previous post. The facts speak for themselves in this case -- that paragraph seemed completely out of place in the article.

That's the moral equivalent of two homos being "parents."

@2: Then it's a good thing this isn't a news article, but a bl0g post.

I am always bemused by the folks who insist on holding Slog posts to the standard of journalistic reporting. It's a weblog. It's practically supposed to be emotional and biased.

@6. Um, Julie's talking about the news article that Dan linked to. She's not complaining about Dan's post.

Cheers.

The paragraph I'm referring to is in the linked news article. Not the blog post.

doesn't that bag seem like the type of thing you'd guard a little more closely? leaving it at a bus stop? what a sad son of a bitch. he did it on purpose to end his guilt. he knew he couldn't stop himself so he left it up to other people to do it for him.

Statistically, the children who are most likely to be molested are girls at the hands of their own fathers. Of course the vast majority of fathers would never do such a thing, but it's the most common scenario.

People are animals and some animals are badly trained and others have psychological abnormalties. In his case it's both.

The child who found the tape and viewed it will have lasting psychological damage. They say a witness to violence is a victim of violence. I believe this is especially true when seeing something as depraved as molesting a baby. It is soul-destroying. My heart breaks for him just as much as it does for the baby. I'm sick.

What the fuck is wrong with that guy? It's because of especially heinous cases like this that they should have the death penalty.

And he can still get married and breed more children whom he may abuse if he ever gets out of jail, which of course I hope he doesn't. Meantime, your child's lesbian 5th grade history teacher, or gay soccer coach, or transgendered music instructor doesn't have the LEGAL RIGHT TO GET MARRIED.
I know I'm preaching to the choir, sorry guys, but I do honestly feel better now.... :)
