Apropos of Midnight

Need to get a drink in Los Angeles? I recommend St. Nick's Pub. It's near the Beverly Center. Generous pours, rodeo on the TV, comfortable booths, and no one cares what you're wearing.

Will there ever be a Slog Happy during one of your visits to LA?

St. Nick's RAWKS! There are script readings in a cool upstairs space where there have even been plays from time to time.

A very cool place that should always be a stop on your LA tour

Dan, what is this obsession you have about what people think of your clothes? I know you have been to gay bars in Seattle, about 80% of the men wear exactly what you do: jeans and T-shirts. The blue-collar look is the uniform of most gay men these days except certain bars in Manhattan. T-shirts today are as mustaches were in the 70's, almost obligatory. It is the people who don't wear the uniform who are ignored. If you don't feel comfortable with your look you can change it.

Good Lord, inkweary, that's a pretty liberal use of the word "obsession," isn't it?

Hyperbole much?

@9 Exaggeration for rhetorical effect. I don't believe that Dan is actually obsessed but he does Slog the subject of his clothing frequently. When he was on the TV round just after Prop 8 he posted about being a "bad fag" for only having one shirt, twice. He posted about loving Rachel Maddow because she didn't care for shopping. There are others.

Dan wears pretty much wears what most gay guys wear so the "bad fag" thing sounds like a class issue; working-class, Carhart queens, against the suits. Sort of like the Xtian majority going on about being oppressed by the non-xtian minority.

I agree: Dan's rants and woe-is-me excuses against culture, fashion, art - it's sad and he's so much better than that. I happen to like Schubert, Balanchine, and Picasso. I also like tequila shots and Lipstick Jungle and college football. That said, Dan would be my first choice going up against Tony Perkins et al, ever, on any planet, even if he does only OWN TWO SHIRTS B/C HE'S SO MUCH LIKE EVERYONE ELSE and so NOT LIKE GAY PEOPLE who ONLY LIKE FANCY RICH STUFF that Dan emphatically DOES NOT. (See how tiring that is?)
