I love this song. It's the ringtone on my new phone.

Next year's Eurovision is just around the corner...

Ken Hutcherson and a manger scene made out of BALLOONS? AND they expect to be taken seriously?

Scandinavian music sucks--especially the Finnish kind. Please post more videos with Norwegian hardcore in them.

Thanks for all the Scandinavian stuff this morning.

You know, even though I'm an agnostic, that sign in the State Capitol is actually pretty offensive and hysterical. The inclusion of all religions should be something positive, not something bitter and negative. And, it should be ever rotating for various holidays throughout the year, and periodic positive pro-agnostic messaging.

@4: That may be, but it's also incredible.

It's interesting that over the years the Eurovision contest has had more and more songs in English. I'm thinking that no one likes their native language anymore and the real goal is not to produce good music but to have a future in the Sales market that is America. Art suffers for the sake of money.

@10: There's no doubt that there are more songs in English, now that it's allowed, but I'm not sure that it's about having a future in America. What Eurovision participant since ABBA has had any presence in America? It's more that, for better or for worse, English is considered a universal in the way that the multiple languages of Europe are not. More can understand you, since so many learn English as a second language, and therefore may vote for you. It's all about accessibility as far as Eurovision is concerned.

Although singing in English doesn't necessarily mean success. Last year's winner sang in English, but the winner of the year before that was in Serbian and crushed.

If you can't be religious and tolerant of others, you don't deserve religion.

Also, @10 [and @11] English has many more rhymming words than any other language. It might have something to do with the fast that it is easier to write verse in English. Not that I can one way or the other....

Ohh, you mean it's not kind and positive like the baby jesus statue that commands you to murder gays and promises to send you to hell to be tortured forever for being an agnostic?

Gee, they deliberately designed a building to attract skaters? I wonder if they could come up with something to draw in more people blasting their car speakers or yelling into their cell phones. Or those charming urban golfers!

It would be nearly perfect. The only missing detail would be the hand grenade practice range, but maybe with a little thought...

Re: the sign thing:

Gov't money absolutely SHOULD NOT be used to put up a Christmas (sorry - "Holiday") tree, nativity scene, giant menorah, Hanukkah bush, whatever. However, the best way to protest this clear violation of church and state is not to put up a sign attacking something that people in this country have a right to hold dear. That's supposed to be the point; we are supposed to have the legal right to chose whether or not to be religious.

If the atheist group in question was at all respectable, they would have spent their time and energy trying to point out that the money used to put up religious holiday decorations should have been put towards something that benefits everyone, regardless of their religion, or whether or not they are religious.

@19 I just had an image of the Baby Jesus in the manger with a tape recording saying "You faggots are all going to Hell." It warmed my heart.

Seriously, where does the Manger scene say that?

@ 21,

Yes, the "Christians" sure showed those rude atheists by promptly stealing their sign and confirming everything that was written on it. That'll show 'em.

And next year they won't have any food to feed their families as the nation convulses in an economic death spasm, but they'll still have their phony war on Christmas!

There are going to be ugly protests and vandalism and fights at the capitol every year until either the state decides it is the government's job to pick and choose which holiday displays are appropriate (never going to happen) or there are no more pissy Christianists around (never going to happen) or the atheists decide to play all kissy kissy nice to please the Christianists (never going to happen), OR... the state gets out of the holiday celebration business altogether and focuses on the boring old task of governing (bingo!).

@22, check out the bible, it's in a bookstore near you. Or is that a non-secular manger scene with a baby who happens to be named Jesus getting baby shower gifts from his three gay uncles?
Posted by jrrrl on December 8, 2008 at 12:15 PM
26
@ 19---Jesus never said murder gays or anything of the sort... Christians have said it for sure---Jesus, no..
Posted by Yolanda's Anus on December 8, 2008 at 12:22 PM

@25 You avoid the question, troll. Where in the manger scene does it say that?

Posted by TheMisanthrope on December 8, 2008 at 12:26 PM

Dude. Anyone who believes there even was a manger scene is a Biblical literalist. You do the math.

I am all for free speech but I thought the text of the sign was in poor taste. The atheists can have made their "Winter Solstice Message" without pissing on people who believe in something else.

I understand that their are a huge amount of intolerant Christians, Jews, and Muslims (I bet their are intolerant atheists too) whene homosexuality is concerned, but their are also thousands of people of faith who are accept and respect homosexuals. Let's not paint everybody with such a wide brush.
