Overheard

Posted by on Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 11:07 AM

A museum curator told me that former Seahawks coach Jim Zorn said in a recent radio interview that if he wasn't in football, he'd like to be a museum curator. Did anybody hear it?

I wonder what shows he'd curate...

I wonder about people who wonder what you wonder.

I really appreciated Ty Willingham's contributions to the Roman exhibit last spring.

Museum curator? Maybe that explains why he signed Shaun Alexander.

Probably one that "proves" dinosaurs and humans lived together 6,000 years ago.

There was a story about it in the Sports section of the P-I a few weeks ago I believe. The lede was pretty snarky.

I like Jim Zorn. On the interview he said after he stopped playing he went to one of those career counselor places where you take a test and they tell you what jobs you would be best suited for. He was told to either go into coaching or become a museum curator. It was never a serious consideration, but Jim said, "A museum curator, I think it's a very specialized person," Zorn said. "Because you have to view the piece. You have to make sure that the piece that you are setting out is viewed in the right way, expressed in the right way.

"And that each piece has to fit in with the gallery itself."

I didn't know he ever coached the Seahawks. Then again, I don't think I've payed attention since Jack Patera did (yes, I was probably eight years old, but I remember well).
