Reading Tonight

There's some stuff going on tonight, book-wise.

Up at Third Place Books, Jeff Lehman discusses his book about saving all your money so you can covet it, which I'm pretty sure the Bible is against. Blasphemy!

At the University Book Store, Roseanne Olson discusses her book This Is Who I Am, which is a collection of naked photos of all kinds of women. The Bible is against nakedness and also women. Biblical fail!

At Town Hall, Curtis Roosevelt, who is the son grandson of Franklin Roosevelt. talks about what it's like to grow up in the White House, which is something that Malia and Sasha Obama had better get used to pretty quick now.

At Elliott Bay Book Company, Wally Lamb, who is a big famous author, reads from his new book, which is about a school shooting. I'm pretty bored by fiction about school shootings at this point.

And up at Open Books, Thomas Aslin reads from A Moon Over Wings. Aslin is a classicist poet who works in forms such as the villanelle and the sestina. This is obviously the reading of the night.

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here.

Curtis Roosevelt is apparently FDR's grandson. I thought it seemed a little wacky that his son would still be around writing books.

Done properly, villanelles are awesome.

Curtis Roosevelt, (born Curtis Roosevelt Dall, briefly Boettiger, April 19, 1930) is the second eldest child of Anna Eleanor Roosevelt and her first husband, Curtis Bean Dall. He is the eldest grandson of United States President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt.

Whoops! Fixed, @1 and @3. Sorry. I was thinking of Eliott Roosevelt, but he died a long time ago, too. Thanks for your corrective measures.

@2 - The same principle applies to sestinas.

Why would I want to pay money for a book full of pictures of not-very-beautiful people? I can walk down the street and see throngs of not-very-beautiful people for free.
