Inspiration for Rosa Parks and Bob Dylan, daughter of the Depression, voice of the the civil rights movement, now dead at 77. She had hoped to sing at Barack Obama's inauguration.
I had the pleasure of catching one of her concerts about 10 years ago... great stuff. Just downloaded an early appearance of her's on Studs Terkel's radio show over the weekend that I've not had a chance to listen to yet--I think I'll make the time.
shit damn hell fuck..
not that she would approve of such language , but she would certainly understand. i wanted - iadare say 'we' wanted' her to sing at the inauguration . now that she can't i'm hoping that perhaps bernice johnson reagon or some of the other members of sweet honey in the rock can sing in her stead.. dylan even
hell anybody except beyonce.

Nonono. I was supposed to see her a year back at a festival she wound up not being able to come to. I was hoping to catch her live somewhere else in the near-ish future. Inauguration would have been fantastic. What a life.
carrma @ 2 -- Aye, she played Jazz Alley, and I brought a young friend - now an early teen - who took it from the opening number that the whole show would be a sing-along.
She was one of my 60's roots, and there's still some old vinyl in the attic.

Very sad -- she would have given a beautiful & deeply moving performance at the inauguration. I'd love to see Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings play at this event, especially if they performed their version of "This Land is Your Land."
