Georgia Runoff Results

Posted by Eli Sanders on Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 4:57 PM

Get 'em here, where as of this posting Republican Saxby Chambliss (who, if nothing else, has one of the best names in politics) is winning re-election to the Senate.

And... the race is called for Chambliss, preventing another Democratic pickup in the Senate. The last liberal hope: Minnesota, where the recount is getting crazy.

Please let them create a Democrat Supermajority of 60. This way they can never blame us Republicans again for their screwups.

that sure was a short political revolution

Nope. With 41 seats now, we're still gonna blame you. If the Republicans can blame the gays (less than 5% of the population) for all their problems, we can certainly blame the Rs with their 41% voting power.

And since when is 58 senate seats, 255 house seats, and the presidency a short political revolution? Even if you're just talking about the South, we lost Georgia but still won Virginia and NC. Relax -- it's still a great political season.

That's a bummer.

I kind of want to name my next dog Saxby, though (the best dog names are funny people names).

"we can certainly blame the Rs with their 41% voting power. "

No, you can't. There would be no law that couldn't be passed even if all Republicans voted against it.

Also, John McCain's campaign manager was gay...yet, has Barack (H)ypocrite Obama appointed one OGG (Openly Gay Guy) yet? One?

58 or 59 is MUCH Better than I expected.

But I hate this illusion that we had to reach the magic number of 60 to make a difference.

It's a symbolic difference, but nothing more.

However, the more Dem senators the better for the Dems, obviously. While some Dems may defect, other Republicans may go along with Dem votes too.

Point being: being close to 2/3rds helps more than 1/2 in general, if you figure in non-partison votes from senators in both parties.

What @8 said. Except I was going to say "evil fuck." I hope Obama finds a way to send (metaphorical) boils, frogs and rivers of blood through Georgia and the other red states. Not a single nickel of all this federal spending should benefit these backward nutcases. Let them eat laissez faire.

@11 - Yay! Broad generalizations are fun.

McCain won Georgia (so red it's practically maroon) by less than 5 points. So yeah, screw the nearly two million of us who voted for Obama. We're so stupid.

You know there's a valid reason why there's just as many Northern stereotypes as Southern ones, right?

I'm lovin'the fact that people can teach themselves to become aware of politics and run up the off trade off again on again election re-counts and all that good stuff.

The beautiful parts to scanning the headlines and leering into the minds of the super majority
is the exquisite coverage of all the essential goods and services throughout the world....

from Macon County to Big Pen Indiana, congradulation to the republic of cApitalism.

There's nothing like a good focal point to re-dress the judges jungle robes in steel.
