If a Litblog Dies Over a Holiday Weekend...

Posted by Paul Constant on Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 4:42 PM

...does anyone notice?

Brittany Denison's incredibly named poetry blog, Aw Hell Yeah, quietly shuttered over the weekend. Before Friday's post, there hadn't been a post since June. But I'd like to point to her great posts from this past February, which were funny, interesting, and insightful. One of her reasons for leaving the litblog world:

I've pretty much stopped reading the blogs that I used to follow regularly because it seems that everybody wants to sound like Tao Lin now.

Denison says she's going to instead devote her time to "focus on the more tangible community of artists and writers around me in Seattle and UW." She is the editor of Nudge, which is a poetry journal I have never read but now will read.

Well where were you, Paul? What did you do to save it? Where in your job description does it not say that you're supposed to sell poets and poetry to the masses? How can you justify anything you do as long as the poetry community suffers so? Little Nazi Hitlers like Paul Constant are the reason poets have to bend pipe and unclog drains instead of cash big fat poetry royalty checks. HITLER! HITLER! HITLER!

I noticed! Hey, Seattle - you've got a dedicated, passionate community of young people still willing to work supporting the arts for free. Use us, abuse us, or lose us.

Brittany Dennison, here. Thanks for the nod! Just my luck; soon as it dies, it gets famous. Who knew blogging could have so much in common with real art? I'll give it the old Frankenstein try perhaps in January or so. Til then, stay fresh everyone.

Hey Brittany,
How do I gain access to Nudge?

There might still be issues of the last issue of Nudge at Bulldog news.

the Stray poetry project by brittany and some other people has a website here: http://stray.dithyramb.org/

the nudge mailing list is here: Nudgearts@u.washington.edu

You don't make clear who composed that headstone inscription, but any poetry blog that accepts "know it" as rhyming with "poets" (instead of "poet") deserves to fail.

There are issues of Nudge issue 2/3 at Bulldog. If you're interested in buying copies of issue 1, there are a couple left. As lo lo bird (hey, Linds) said, hit up nudgearts@gmail.com.

Yeah, Claire (commenter above) is the actual editor of Nudge, which is more of a UW community publication, and isn't restricted to poetry. More clarification here: http://awhellyeahpoetry.blogspot.com/200…
