If this paper is so cool, why is it named after a Billy Joel song?

"Once I used to believe
I was such a great romancer
Then I came home to a woman
That I could not recognize
When I pressed her for a reason
She refused to even answer
It was then I felt the stranger
Kick me right between the eyes"

Ooh, stalled construction - what, the story keeps unfolding? Weird! The Stranger wrote about developers stalling five months ago, today the Times writes about architects stalling - if in a few months the P-I writes about another part of the construction economy stalling, you can claim the scoop again, just as logically.

Dom: The Stranger is named after the absurdist novel, "L'Étranger" by Albert Camus. If you don't want to read it, it is however a really good book and easy to read, the Cure song "Killing An Arab" recounts the plot.

How could the lawyer for the gay pornmonger say this with a straight face? "if they have done nothing wrong they have no reason to be concerned." Just getting a letter like that would freak you out -- how do you defend yourself?

You have to hire a fucking lawyer.

Re: The stranger:

Sitting on your hand until it falls asleep and then jerking off, eliciting the feeling of a hand job from someone else.

I realize you're an exploited, naive unpaid intern, but that's no excuse for utter stupidity. Dominic Holden's earlier story about stalled construction is somehow related to a Times story specifically about the effect the slowdown is having specifically on local architects, and constitutes some kind of journalistic coup? Really?

I'd suggest going back to typing up club listings and jacking off over the Savage Love reject letters.
