Breaking News Terror in Mumbai

MUMBAI, India — Teams of heavily armed gunmen stormed luxury hotels, a popular tourist attraction and a crowded train station in at least seven attacks in India's financial capital, killing at least 78 people and wounding at least 200, officials said Thursday. The gunmen were specifically targeting Britons and Americans and a top police official said the gunmen are holding hostages at two luxury hotels, the Taj Mahal and Oberoi hotels.

I was planning to take my winter vacation in India. Not now. Last year I was in Sri Lanka when the cease fire ended. There was a bombing near my hotel but I felt safe personally. There, the hatred is mostly internecine. Still, I would rather be killed on vacation than in a mall.

They're not that heavily armed, judging by what they've used so far - the largest is maybe 50 cal, and most is fairly lightweight military spec.

If you're not planning on taking a vacation in India because of terrorism I gots news fer ya. Ain'no place that's safe from terrorism whether you're doing your job in NYC or doing your job in OKC, Jerusalem or Baghdad. Giving in to terrorists is the terrorist object. Bowing to terrorism only re-enforces it. Giving in to ransom for the Somali pirates only encourages them to do more of it.
