Here's why that press image reminds you of Goya, Christopher. The arm gestures, the disaster in front, the authorities on the right.

On a day with news like today's from Mumbai, Goya is almost the only artist to turn to. Here's a great web site with images of all 80 of his cutting Caprichos. Here are some of his Disasters of War.

Goya's images do capture the horror and choas of war and revolution. In the current case in Mumbai the protagonists/antagonists are reversed. It is now a case of armed revolutionaries who are killing a defenseless elite.

Defenseless?

I don't think so.

Oh, and for those wondering why they used boats too, it's an island. A marshy one - go watch Slumdog Millionaire and learn something about the city.

I think being an unarmed tourist in a luxury hotel during a well-coordinated attack by armed revolutiionaries is a pretty good example of being a defenseless elite.

Thanks, but I prefer to learn something about a city by talking to people who live or have traveled there and then go there myself. It seems I may have to forego traveling there this winter.

Now it's 900 wounded. Just because it was a five star hotel, doesn't mean the tourists deserved it.
