"Dear Racist Asshole": The Plot Thickens...

Posted by on Wed, Nov 26, 2008 at 11:39 AM

Readers will recall last week's I, Anonymous, starring a lost cell phone, allegedly racist text messages, and vigilante activism.

Today brings a response:

Dear Fucktard Who Found My Phone,

You found my phone, snooped through my text messages and decided I was a bigot. Congratulations buddy! You've taken the first step towards eliminating racism!

I am not a racist; I am only guilty of having friends who tell stupid jokes. Just like you, I don't have any control over what filth people send to my phone. I also had no say in my phone being STOLEN from my work, my privacy being invaded by a thief (that would be you), or having some ignorant fuck call me a racist. You are an asshole.

Personally, I would have loved for you to have actually called my mom. Not only would I have gotten my phone back, but she could have explained to you that we shed joyous tears together on November 5th. Was it because we were mourning the loss of the white race? Oh no. We are lifelong Democrats AND WE ARE ALSO BLACK PEOPLE. You've heard of black people, right? They're the ones you're righteously crusading for, you piece of shit. However, you may have never seen one up close all the way up there on your high horse.

Also, way to lie about that "loving black cock" text message. A quick survey of my friends proved your story to be false. Not only are you a thief, you're also a self-aggrandizing liar. Stay classy!

Judging from the comments left on the previous I, Anonymous column, there are quite a few grumpy white people in town who are interested in punishing racists. (On a side note, are we really still having the debate about why it's okay for black people to say "cracker" but NOT okay for white people to say nigger? REALLY?) Just out of curiosity, where were all of you when Washington State voters repealed affirmative action? What are you all doing on a daily basis to increase the number of African-Americans who graduate from high school? Or go on to higher education? Oh, I'm sorry, I see you are all too busy passing judgment on me and my personal, private text messages to concern yourselves with ACTUAL racism.

-Anonymous Black Person With No Phone

Okay, I'm with ABPWNP on the --where were you when Wash State elimated Affirmative Action, what are you doing to help black kids finish high school/go to college.

I'll add --
Are you mentoring a kid?
What are you doing to stop mass incarceration?

But, come on ABPWNP, you GOT to do something about your friends and their stupid ass racist (yes, it is racist, maybe internalized) "jokes." Really, it isn't funny and it is not helping anyone graduate from high school.

Best Dear Anon ever. I love you, ABPWNP. I hope you can replace your phone soon.

Has anyone confirmed this is the owner of the phone? Or perhaps an anonymous troll?

At least one of these writers is not telling the truth and without the phone we can't know. The first letter spoke of photos of the phone owner and his tattoos, which should have given a clue to race, which seems to indicate that number one is the true message. Then again, he could be a very light-skinned individual who self-identifies as black. Both could be hoaxes as well.

@3 he probably should do more about his stupid friends, but i'd hate for anyone to judge me based some of the texts i get.

when i first read the original "i, anon" all i could think about is how revenge never works well for me. and then i thought - maybe even more so in this situation as what does this guy gain by sending text messages to friends and just berating the guy in this piece? nothing and now it bites him in the ass. worst yet, this all stinks of fiction for some reason...

happiness is the ultimate revenge >>>>>

Are you retarded?
In your world are blacks not able to have tattoos?
Is Obama black enough for you? Or is he "America's first caramel President"?

@7 surely the pictures of the tattoos could have been someone else's? it is conceivable that a black person spends time with white people who have body art, yes?
Posted by thinking on November 26, 2008 at 12:09 PM
15
#12: what is wrong with you? #7 didn't say that blacks can't have tattoos...he simply said that, in viewing a photo of a tattoo, you would almost undoubtedly see SOME skin...and be able to identify it's color.
Posted by wtf? on November 26, 2008 at 12:11 PM
16
@12, are YOU retarded? I believe what inkweary was pointing out was the fact that if there were pictures on the phone of the guy's tattoos, then Anon would have been able to tell the color of the guy's skin, and whether or not he was black. Because, you know, tattoos are inked on skin? Unless the guy was a very light skinned black guy, in which case, Anon could have mistaken him for white. Settle down, LeRoi. Don't get your panties in a bunch.

Personally, I don't even think these two are even talking about the same phone.

-First anon makes no mention of skin color, even though it would be really obvious in the tattoo pics if the owner was black

-first anon talks about finding the phone on the street, second talks about it being stolen from work

-first anon sent messages to all contacts, second anon says there were no texts to his friends.

So really, the only evidence we have that this phone is the same in both cases is the presence of text messages from racist friends... which is probably more prevalent than we'd like to think.

When I first read the I, Anonymous, I thought that the author must have had to make alot of assumptions about those texts and the pictures to come to the conclusion that he did. I obviously don't know exactly what the contents of the phone were, but it seems like stuff like that is usually not clear cut.

But, the same thing applies to ABPWNP. The phone in I, Anonymous may or may not be his phone.

I was with him right up until the affirmative action part:

I'm sympathetic with its goals, but race-based affirmative action is racist. Fighting racism with racism is the wrong way to address the problem. Affirmative action should be based on socio-economic status instead.

@17 why would the first anonymous letter admit to stealing the phone just to berate the morality of the owner of the phone? for letter-writing purposes, it wouldn't make any sense to say, "hey, i stole your phone and i'm very upset to learn that you are a racist!"

secondly, it sounds like the person who found/stole the phone made an assumption based on the photos on the phone that the pictures of the tattoos were of the OWNER'S tattoos. i don't know about you, but i don't keep very many picture of myself on my own phone.

lastly, i think the second letter is pointing out that despite the phone-finder's claims, there was no embarrassing text message sent out to the phone-owner's contacts. because, you know, the phone-finder is a huge pussy.

@20 So then what evidence to you have to show unequivocally that they talk about the same phone? Seriously, I'm curious.

For this to add up, you must assume that the first anon LIED about damn near every detail to support the conclusion that they came from the same phone... sounds like blind faith to me.
Posted by UNPAID COMMENTER on November 26, 2008 at 12:27 PM
23
I have a hard time believing either of these are true.
Posted by Ziggity on November 26, 2008 at 12:31 PM
24
Really the only way to know if they talk about the same phone is if

A) anon1 sent messages using anon2's phone or

B) anon1 mailed the broken pieces of anon2's phone back to them.

There's nothing else identifiable beyond tattoo pics (which aren't too uncommon, and as has been pointed out, might or might not be of the phone's owner) and racist text messages (which anon1 says originated with the owner, and which anon2 says originated with his contacts)

whether this letter is real or not, the writer of the first i anon is a tool and a self-congratulating douche for thinking that destroying a cell phone is an act of racial activism.

@12 Your reading comprehension needs work as some other posters were kind enough to point out.

Anon 1 wrote this:

"By the way, I also enjoyed the photos of your girlfriend, her tits, your car (with its license plate clearly legible, so you might want to park that in a safe place for awhile), your skull tattoos, and your drug paraphernalia. (Smoking pot is probably your only redeemable quality.)"

He obviously viewed those photos as being of the owner of the phone, who apparently did not appear to be black to Anon 1. How did Anon 1 know that some of the pictures were of the owner of the phone? They could easily have been labeled, in files. My phone does that, so do many others.

Since a search of the blog doesn't turn up any other posts by a "Leroi" in the past I assume that you are just a cowardly sock puppet who is more concerned with me than I with you. Pathetic really.

I just lost my cell phone recently... but I got a new one. It's a Nokia... it's ok, i miss my old phone but the new one has a flash on the camera. I can use it when I'm in seattle for thanksgiving.

Oh that's right! It's THANKSgiving not HATEgiving... you guys should save all the drama for anotha mama on HATEgiving day. Oh wait, there's no such thing so maybe you should just love and thank and share the piece of turkey with the wish bone so you two can share it and wish for free cell phone services instead.

Whatever, obama got elected without affirmative action, or being related to any famous black family.

I would say fuck black people they get the most help out of the minorities, resent it, and do the least with it.

This Asian American liberal remembers grilling John Carlson at a City Club meeting on I-200 about how he thought he could keep himself from frying in hell if he used the talents God gave him to kick our African American brothers and sisters in the teeth. And this Asian American liberal sits on the board of a nonprofit agency that is committed to lifting up youth of color. Others can check out the United Way web site for board and volunteer opportunities. And meh @18, in the spirit of the season, rather than rebuking you, I will point you to the immortal words of President Lyndon Johnson. Happy Thanksgiving, meh and all Sloggers.

Personally, I'm not about to work with United Way. The King County chapter has a history of caving to fundamentalist Christians, at least as far back as its decision to drop Planned Parenthood as a member agency in '88. I wouldn't even consider volunteering with such an agency unless it was the only game in town.

Fortunately, United Way isn't even close to being the only game in town. A nice alternative is idealist.org, which lists hundreds of volunteer opportunities in Seattle alone.

@38: You don't have to work with, support, or give money to United Way to click on their web site and find hundreds of volunteer and board opportunities at dozens, if not hundreds, of nonprofits in the area. Sheesh!

I'm not a racist but I love racist jokes. I have friends and family members of multiple cultures and races, and it really helps to relieve all the bullshit. If you haven't heard racist jokes about white people you aren't hanging out with the right people. Stealing someone's phone is pretty horrendous though. Happy Thanksgiving!
