i love how the NYT article refers to the part of berkeley where the museum may be built as "rough" and "gritty." ummmm... no. berkeley certainly has it's rough patches, but the perimeter of campus isn't one of them.

@1: it's a replacement for a museum that was earthquake-damaged, not a brand-new museum
@2: far from the roughest part of Berkeley, to be sure, but for a NYT architecture critic, it might seem that way. There are a lot of homeless squatting on the site where that new building is going to go
