Fatal Shooting at Vito's

A fatal shooting occurred at Vito's Madison Grill on the 900 block of Madison last Saturday night. Details come from SPD's blotter. Officers responded to a call of shots fired inside the nightclub. After arriving on scene, officers found one male victim with a fatal gunshot wound. Homicide, Gang and CSI Detectives all responded to the scene for an investigation. The suspect remains at large.

Daniel Carr, a bartender working at Vito's Saturday night, says that he recognized neither the victim or the suspect. However, he says that "they are on camera and their faces are pretty clear."

SPD spokesman Mark Jamieson would not comment on whether or not the homicide is being investigated as gang-related.

The intersection of 9th and Madison was also the scene of a drive-by shooting in June.

I live on the same block. That place is a douche bag attracting shit hole.

Anyone know how to go about making some sort of request that their liquor license be removed?

Two more people were shot in the parking lot outside fucking Venom on Western at Bell Friday night. No fatalities. No arrests. People get shot there a lot.

It really breaks my heart that this is what has become of Vito's. That place was so rad back when Vito was still around. I was gonna add something about Vito rolling in his grave, and then I remembered that the joint had a bit of a mob vibe back then...so maybe it's fitting that it's now overrun with gangsters? Still - sad.

Just goes to show you can build all the fancy new condos you want, the riff raff will still remain. Living downtown is starting to sound like living in the Central Dist. where people seem to get shot on a regular basis.

Since Dan has now deemed Marlee Ginter a fine journalist, maybe she could do an expose on this?

9th and Madison isn't really downtown. I lived on 9th and Marion for a couple of years, and that area is separated both geographically and attitudinally from downtown. It's First Hill, or Pill Hill in the vernacular. It was okay except for the ambulance sirens going past all day and all night and the @#$% bells from St. James Cathedral across the street starting at oh-dark-thirty every Sunday morning.

I never could afford to eat at Vito's when I lived there, but I used to walk past it several times a day, and I always wished I could; it smelled fantastic.

Back in my day, the restaurant was still there, but the place was just for drinking - there was never anyone in the dining room. Before it became a "nightclub", it was a fabulous place with a great mix of people. I loved that big corner booth, and the nudie in the bathroom. Was there a piano player? It seems like there was.

Golly, now that I think about it, most all of those places are gone: Doghouse, Cloud Room, Vito's, Gold Coin, Trader Vic's, Gay Nineties, Steve's Broiler...... There's still some places in Chinatown, but almost everything else has closed.

If it were 20 years ago I would have said it was a mob hit. I regret not going to Vito's when it was fun.

Vito's is a well respected local establishment enjoyed by the neighborhood for it's cheap drinks and great regulars. It's the random out-of-towners and people like "bryce" who give Vito's it's bad rap. I've been going there for years and have only known good people, great employees, and all-around satisfaction on first hill. It's a shame this had to happen at such a great spot....but it was the people involved.. not the spot itself..

I was at a gathering when one of the bartenders (I knew him, coincidentally) called another guy there and said this happened right in from of him. Shitty. Hope he's doing okay after seeing this happen.

Makes me feel a bit unsafe since I've been there a few times, but at least these shooters seem to have particular targets...
