Change We Can Believe In

Posted by on Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 1:13 PM

This ought to crank up the shriekers on the right:

Ellen Moran, executive director of EMILY’s List, was named White House communications director by President-elect Obama on Saturday.... EMILY's List, one of the most important Democratic constituency groups, says it is "dedicated to building a progressive America by electing Democratic pro-choice women to office."

Liberals were worried about the next two or three appointments to the Supreme Court before the election. Now who gets to worry?

That's awesome! I hope the press secretary will be as interesting a choice.

Robert Gibbs will be the press secretary. No surprise there.

??

LA Times 6/6/08: "Clinton’s standing among Democratic women “could not be any higher than it is today,” said Ellen Moran, executive director of EMILY’s List, a fundraising group for female candidates, which backed Clinton."

Soooooo....... Rahm Emanuel, check.
John Podesta, check. HRC, check. Holden, check.
Richardson, cehck. Geithner, check. Klane, check. Summers, check.

Napolitano, Daschle, Axelrod, eh, not so tied to Clintons.

Looks like "change = Obama + Clinton"!
Oh and btw they chose Sidwell Friends school. Ultra white in the ultra white part of town. While that school also has like $27,000 a year tuition, its Quakery background makes it more aceptable to the more liberal leaning types than that ever so slightly more snooty Georgetown Day School, where the tuition is like #2000 a year more. Sad isn't it that we don't even expect the President to send his kids to public school any more? It's kind of a tacit acceptance of the rotten, horrible violent conditions there.

Oh and Sidwell Friends has a famous alumna...Chelsea Clinton. Check and check again!

Seems like this is the bottom line, eh?

Obama = um pretty much the same thing as Clinton!

Now, the change we can believe in seems to be this:

Obama = Clinton!

I do approve. Carter brought in a bunch of outsiders who didn't know anything and we don't want to repeat that mistake.

The real change of course isn't in these appointments it will be in Obama's policies these apppointees will push.

I hope Monday when he rolls out his economic team he rolls out some of his policies including a plan to reshape Detroit for our economy and saving the planet and building the car that will sell all over the world.

*That's* the change I want to see.

Unity y'all--

This amuses me so much. Not because I know anything about this person, but because C.J. Cregg from the TV show The West Wing worked for EMILY's List earlier in her career. She was press secretary, but not communications director, but it's still close enough to be funny.

Do you know what a nightmare it would be to have the President's kids in public school? They would have to do background checks on all the faculty, staff, and kids' parents and would disrupt class with Secret Service agents.

The two private schools are used to having presidential children and other children of famous or powerful people.

#3. Compared to the demographics of DC, yes, Sidwell Friends is more white, but it's 39% non-white. That's nothing to sneeze at. And many of the private schools in DC offer amazing financial aid to families in need. I know; my brother works at one. Additionally, Sidwell is well-suited for handling children of the president as they taught Chelsea Clinton. And, finally, Joe Biden's grandkids go there, and the Obama girls and the Biden grandchildren bonded on the campaign trail. The Obamas have said that they look forward to being involved in the life of Washington, DC, just like they've been involved in the life of Chicago over the years.

I don't really think Richardson can be called a Clintonite anymore, right? I mean, he's Judas, isn't he? I'm sure he's been crossed off the Christmas Card list.

Change doesn't equal bringing in qualified people who don't know how the government works. And the Clinton administration (Bill's, NOT Hillary's) was the last Democratic administration. It only makes sense that he's bringing on people from that administration. And there's a huge difference between people who worked in the Clinton administration and those who were die-hard Clintonistas. So, no, Obama's administration doesn't equal a Clinton administration.

Cheers.

I'm still worried about the Court. The next two or three likely vacancies are on the left. So, the best we can do is hold serve during Obama's term(s).

The departure of Alito, Thomas, Roberts, and/or Scalia (magnificently entertaining writer that he is) would create the potential to move the Court back toward its pre-Roberts composition. But, these four aren't likely to go anywhere for quite some time.

Will those new Supreme Court justices help with the South Center shootings?

Imagine that. Obama chooses to appoint Democrats that have experience in a presidential administration. I'm aghast! Why did he pick Clintonistas? Oh wait, Carterites are too old and Johnsonians are dead.

JeffB is right -- if McCain had been elected, in the last 25 years, he could've picked people from Bush II, Bush I, and Reagan, or many that had served in two or all three.

In the same time frame, Obama gets ... Clinton. Just Clinton. How are the results a surprise?

Well at least Obama won't select a judge more conservative than one of the liberal justices who might retire. Thomas is a possibility. He's been on the bench approaching twenty years and Scalia's tenure is approaching thirty. Stevens will probably be the first to go. He was appointed in '75 and is 88 years old. I understand Ginsberg isn't in the best of health. At least we know the liberal slots are safe.

And, by the way, have you seen some of Bush's departing executive orders coming up shortly before he leaves office? Some of them are here:

With Roberts deciding which cases come before the court, he's going to be very careful about manuevering anything the left or moderate judges might decide. I'm hoping the more liberal judges who can't last many more years do the country a favor and resign while Obama is president. Also, Clinton's Presidency was far more successful at everything than Bush's. Why not use experience and smarts? The right wing doesn't like it, but after the mess they've left, who gives a shit what they think?

The White House Communications Director nominates Supreme Court justices? How did I miss that Amendment???

But seriously, folks, a Hillary administration would have had fewer Clinton retreads (which is part of the secret to Obama's impressive primary endorsement record).

Emily's List has no cause other then pro-choice women to office. They don't really care about policies or most anything liberal.

This woman might be a fine liberal, I don't know. But Emily's List doesn't give her those credentials.

Could the abortion war be effectively over now? It sure seems that one side has won a definitive battle.
