Why Is David Plouffe Still Asking Me for Money?

Posted by Christopher Frizzelle on Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 10:23 AM

Didn't we win already? The transition effort needs money? Um, take me off your list?

Funny that you'd bring this up. Because I just unsubscribed for the same reason.

Yeeuh. I gave them some already to help them win, if they don't have any more money, that's not my problem. Do what every OTHER POTUS elect has done when they were in transition. Duh. :p

I have been thinking the exact same thing, and the last time was like, when is someone going to Slog this so I can complain?

So, here I am, complaining. Quit asking me for money, fools.

I thought it was to fill the coffers for the next time around.

I was wondering the same thing.

Seriously! And there were the reports that he paid all his low-level staff an extra month's salary because they had so much money left over...

Did you all get the (in not so many words) Help Pay Off Hillary's Debt email?

I read one of the recent emails, aren't they asking us to donate to the DNC?

@9 - I'm sure that extra month salary will help them as they're finding new jobs in this economy. But can you blame him. His people worked their asses off, as well as us normal citizens, to get him elected. Work hard and get what you truly deserve.

I'm sure there'll be many books and studies done on his campaign and how it probably correlates to a successful start-up company taking out the big dogs in such a short time (aka Google vs MS and Yahoo)

*I have a special request for you.* What? That didn't make you feel all special? Tomorrow the same request will be resent but from Joe Biden (haven't heard from him in a while, so he's probably next in the rotation). Joe will be asking $35 and offering a limited edition Transition We Can Believe In t-shirt.

You should have switched the automatic donation over to your local district Democrats (e.g. 43rddems.org for example) or the KC Dems anyway.

Either we pay for it, or MegaCorp Sponsors and Lobyists pay for it. I vote in favor of Us. When we pay the money, Obama & Company owe us; when the Corporations and Lobbyists pay, they get their way.

It's hard for me to rationalize foregoing contributions to local food banks and charities so I can help David Plouffe more. I already gave more this campaign than I had in my lifetime to other campaigns.

Most of us have to be extra-strict over expenditures these days. Duh! Just yesterday, Dan S. floated the idea of a $20-$30 inauguration party. Half of the comments said they wouldn't or couldn't attend at party at 9 a.m. on a Tuesday.

Today, Plouffe asks if we can part with $25 (more solicitations are on their way) in their effort to subvert traditional fundraising channels (read special interests).

A lot of people/companies/organizations are panhandling including Detroit's Big Three.

It feels like a new day in America.

So, you can unsubscribe from Obama's outreach network as easily as you can avert your eyes and walk right past the indigents on the sidewalk.

I think to be truly engaged with our community and our country demands that we keep our eyes and ears wide open and that we stoke compassion in our minds and hearts.

If we can't really afford $25 this week, just delete the email and move forward. I'd suggest, though, that we don't close down the conversation, stuff cotton in our ears, narrow our vision and stay indoors from here on out.

Absolutely -- get the big corps to cough up the money, and then pay them back with sweetheart legislation! Great idea!

Otoh, I didn't send them money, either.

A week before election day, I ordered some merchandise from the Obama Store totalling $93. Then, I did the "round your donation up $10" feature to make it an (almost) even $100. As of yesterday, I still hadn't received my merchandise. I looked in my bank account and there was a credit from the "Obama Victory Fund" of $93. I inquired, and it appears that they canceled my order. All except the $10 cash. Very strange. I have yet to recieve a response as to why. And yeah, I'm still getting the Plouffe emails too.

Obama is not allowed to use money raised for his campaign on the transition. It's against the rules. He can either donate it to the DNC, donate it to another campaign, or hang onto it for 2012. Either way, though, it's illegal to use it for the transition, so he's really starting fundraising over now.

I've remained subscribed to the mailing list until today. The daily emails were annoying enough, but the post-election emails are the last straw.

Mine said it was for the DNC to keep the coffers full to run congressional races in 2010. And it was from David....**swoons** I just think David is so damn cute in a dorky sorta way...**sigh** to bad he's straight. STRAIGHT TO BED!!!

I think it's because:
In the past, efforts like these have often been very secretive and funded by the D.C. lobbying and corporate community.

But, like in the campaign, we've decided to do things differently.

For the first time, transition efforts won't be financed with donations from Washington lobbyists and PACs -- which means we'll need to keep asking for your help. Your generosity during the campaign helped get us here, but building a more transparent and open government means continuing to rely on a broader group of people to do this the right way.

I had the same thought. "You won, now fuck off with the spare changin'!"

Shouldn't we all be funding the transition, as taxpayers? I find this all very confusing.
