I fucking hate ribbons and bracelets and shit. This is not the tactic we need. Why is nobody taking the economic approach in this whole mess? Let us gays get married and we'll create lots of revenue by spending money to do it! Hell, my husband-in-some-places-but-not-here and I spent around 30K on our wedding here in Seattle and it wasn't even legal! Not to mention the 50 people who came in from out of state and spent money on hotels and restaurants and whatever else in our fair city.
Can you imagine the revenue created across the US if we were "allowed" to get "married"?
Here's to the gays solving the economic crisis!!

Jeeeez. All these colors. I can't remember them all. I went to http://www.craftsnscraps.com/jewelry/rib… to find out what color went to what. I think they should pick Pale Yellow. That way, the movement only has to compete with spina biffida.
Sure, snark all you want, but someone tell me - what's the downside of having a visible symbol to show your support for marriage equality? (White is the color of most wedding gowns and "tying the knot", well, you know...)

Hmmm, I don't know. I'd like to support your cause, but up here (Canada) the white ribbon is worn by men who are against violence against women.
I know what you're thinking, you really wouldn't think you'd need to wear a ribbon to show that you are against violence against women, but there you are.
Um, if I'm not mistaken, the white ribbon is best known as the symbol of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union, which supports, among other things, bans on same-sex marriage.
Ribbons are gay. We need to vote with our dollars, not with our accessories.... Less ribbons, more stuff like this:
"We are calling for a nationwide strike and economic boycott by all members of our Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered community AND OUR STRAIGHT ALLIES on December 10th, 2008, International Human Rights Day.
WHY SHOULD WE DO IT?
Because LGBT workers, business owners, consumers and taxpayers contribute over $700 billion to the U.S. economy each year and should not be treated as second class citizens.
Because general strikes and economic boycotts are a powerful weapon in the history of non-violent protests. See http://www.pbs.org/now/society/boycott.h…. For many of those protesters, their actions came at a cost, but we must be willing to make sacrifices to fight for equal rights, including the right to marry.
Because marriage should be a Right for all Americans, regardless of gender, race OR religion.
Because until ALL are equal, NONE are equal.
WHAT SHOULD WE DO?
Strike: call in gay, shut down your business, take the day off.
Boycott: don't buy anything or spend money.
Participate: visit www.daywithoutagay.org for a list of volunteer and/or protest opportunities.
The white ribbons will be just for us poor homos. The rich homos at HRC will get chi-chi diamond studded white knots for their lapels. But they won't wear them in public, of course, because that would be too confrontational.

My favorite part was the "how to make your own" link. I know I missed out on boyscouts and all, but I think I know how to tie a knot in a piece of ribbon without a how to guide. ; )
