Every Crisis an Opportunity

Posted by Eli Sanders on Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 12:15 PM

Rahm Emanuel, describing some of the things the incoming Obama administration is likely to move on quickly. It's not a list for the politically timid:

The longest list of meaningless cliches I've heard in some time. Everyone agrees on the need for "fairness as well as simplicity" in our tax structure, but what exactly does that consist of? (Flat tax?) Oooh, and "regulatory reform" with greater "transparency and accountability," and unspecified "fundamental reforms" in education -- doesn't EVERY politician promise that?

Well, it's certainly a list any incoming President would be tickled to have, a bunch of publicity-hot problems the public is glad to associate with his predecessor, and a huge amount of slack to have the new team do anything they want, since nobody else has come up with any solutions. Who wants to take office when there's not much historymaking to be done? Good for him.

In other news, I'd like to give Rahm a rogering he wouldn't soon forget.

I can't find much to disagree with here. Probably because he didn't really say much.

What's up with the middle finger on his right hand? Did he give someone the finger and have it bitten off?

@7 He cut his finger while working at Arby's as a teenager and had to have it amputated. Not exactly an exciting story....

They talk like they want to be FDR but do they realize that many of the new Democrats in the Senate are conservative Democrats?

Obama will be better than Bush certianly and better than Hillary would have been but I am not super optimistic about what Obama will actually be able to do; if anything.

@ 8: Not exciting? This is Rahm Emanuel we're talking about. Of COURSE it's exciting.

While it is true that he sliced it while working at the Arbys, what people seem to forget is that he refused to get medical attention until after he went swimming in Lake Michigan during prom and got a severe bone and blood infection and sat in a hospital near death.

BLAMMO.

As Obama said about the middle-finger amputation, "It rendered him nearly mute."

Obama said that at a roast of Emanuel a couple of years ago, and I thought Emanuel's wife was going to fall out of her chair laughing.
