Obama's Pick for Attorney General

Posted by Eli Sanders on Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 11:54 AM

Eric Holder, says Newsweek. He would be the first African-American to lead the Justice Department.

The only hesitancy about Holder’s selection was that he himself had reservations about going through a confirmation process that was likely to revive questions about his role in signing off on the controversial pardon of fugitive financier Marc Rich. Although there is no evidence that Holder actively pushed the pardon, he was criticized for not raising with the White House the strong objections that some Justice Department lawyers and federal prosecutors in New York had to pardoning somebody who had fled the country.

Wow, an obvious Clintonite involved in one of the actual scandals. But who cares? Obama picked him so he must be competent. Don't bother us with telling about his actual record on anything like Marc Rich OK just a snippet, no real info) or torture or wh. he will prosecute Freddie G.
tenet.

Oh yes, also: DO NOT mention the obvious and profound clintonization of the entire transition. It's only 3/4 of everyone being appointed. January: Clinton = Bush. Clinton is not change. Clinton is evil! Clinton has bad foreign policy judgment! Change!! Now: thank you very much I am a very smart dude to hire all these long term DC insiders and lobbyists including, mainly, Clintonistas. Like Hillary and now, an attorney who said it was okay to pardon fugitive felon Marc Rich!

Why do I harp on this?

Because it's stupid to keep on with the bullshitting. It's bullshitting to say Clinton = Bush, it's bullshitting to say we need this total change that excludes giving people jobs who worked for the last administration, when those things, both of them, ain't true. This kind of bullshitting ultimately builds up the whole GOP frame of "govt. is evil."

Instead automaton adulation as in @1, or automaton hatred and loathing as oft expressed if you point out any critique of Pres. O, how about actually being thoughtful and real?

For example. I ahve no idea who this guy Holden is. I'd like to know more about the Marc Rich thing. And has he spoken out int he last 8 years on torture? On FISA?

On whether to prosectue Freddie Gonzalez?

Slog didn't tell us.

Seems like the goal is to ensure we just bow down in ritualistic adulation. And oh yes, it's kind of glaring that this whole clintonization issue is studiously ignored in this post. Perhaps the goal is to ensure there's no debate on it at Slog. Clearly many folks hating the clintonistas so much might not like what OBama's doing...or if they are okay with it it basically undermines much of the whole premise of his earlier attacks against hillary....and shows that at bottom he is not different.

Now that's very inconvenient for the adulators. Best to hide it under the rug.

Mmmmm?

I'll forgive Clinton for pardoning Marc Rich if during his first year as president Obama pardons Leonard Peltier. I've already requested this on the change.gov site.

It might have been on Rachel Maddow or Countdown yesterday, but someone said that since there has been only one Democrat president in the last 28 years, it is natural that anyone hired with experience would come out of the Clinton administration.

What little I've read about Holder, I think he will be way better than what we've had.

@4, I'm stumped. You whinge on and on like a certain PC I know, but PC's a Clinton partisan. Well in any case, I have your identity down to the subset of approximately 100 million internet users whose inane comments drag on far past the point that anyone cares to read them.

You want to know more about the guy? go look him up on wikipedia for a start. There's a fair amount of public scrutiny out there on him.

God damn it- Russ Feingold should be AG! But then there would be actual investigations and prosecutions, and we just can't have that. Apparently. Fucking Dems remain spineless, even when they're on top (see: Jerusalem Joe Lieberman, R- Jagoffistan.)

This does not look like Change to me. I'm keeping my jaundiced eye on you, Obama.

"Obama pardons Leonard Peltier."

Not in this lifetime. No president will ever touch that. Clinton flirted with the idea and he had the FBI all over him like a cheap suit. They prolly set him up via linda tripp as a way to show him who is boss.

The Prez is putting together a pretty solid cabinet so far. And I still say HRC is an excellent choice for secretary of state.

SeMe is right.

Bill's the only downside in Sen Clinton being Secretary of State, IMHO. And he'd settle for Ambassador to the UK or the UN.
