KOMOphobes

Posted by on Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 10:16 PM

First, credit to Wiseblood for "KOMOphobes"—brilliant. I'm feeling pretty KOMOphobic after seeing their teaser for tonight's installment of "problem solver," in which their brave correspondent takes on local sex havers. But... can someone tape it for me? Pretty please? I'm not sure I can tear myself away from the Daily Show long enough to catch all the action over at KOMO.

Here's a dumb thought. The Daily Show can be watched in full-episode form online. Why not just watch KOMO in real time?

Just watched it. Classic case of the news trying to pump up ratings by peddling sex under the guise of hard hitting investigative reporting.

Get this - the sex club reported a whopping $12,000 in tax free profits last year!

And, at the end of the segment, they mention rather anti-climactically that most private clubs (golf, hunting, etc) have tax exempt status.

Limp.

Typical November sweeps overblown non-news. The bedrock of television pseudojournalism.

The text-piece Russell linked to on the Komo site has a link to the video segment.

Focusing on constructive reactions to KOMO's "hit piece" on CSPC:

Tonight I donated $20 specifically to the Foundation for Sex Positive Culture via KOMO's "Problem Solvers" Donation Page: https://paytrace.com/cart/donate.pay

You could also comment on the story on their website, here: http://www.komonews.com/news/34630804.ht…

...or write to the reporter, Marlee Ginter, at MGinter@komotv.com

Please remember to keep your comments polite and constructive, and it wouldn't hurt to use a spell checker. ;-)

The reporter says that all clubs get these special breaks. Does that mean we will see similar investigative reports on the Washington Athletic Club, the Rainier Club, and the Sunset Club? After all, these clubs are located in the downtown core - some of the most expensive real estate in the nation. I don't want my "hard-earned tax dollars" going to support that.

Also - and this is an adult topic, so you with kids might want to get them out of the room while you read this - these clubs all serve liquor and some of them have locker rooms, and private rooms with beds. I think we all know what that means....

Anyway, I'm looking forward to these future problem solver episodes:

The Rainier Club: A Billionare's Bordello?

The Washington Athletic Club: More than just handball?

The Sunset Club: Old women cruising for a hot time!

This is one of the reasons I stopped watching TV. Local "news" has become so lame and sensationalistic as to become completely unwatchable.

Hey, I'm cool with sex clubs, I've even been to the Wet Spot, I mean, uh, Center for Sex Positive Culture. But c'mon, people, this isn't an educational facility, unless you count the instruction in non-vital topics such as how to whip and tie up other people. It sounds like the people accusing KOMO of being hysterical are equally so; the reporter didn't question the right to attend a sex club, she questioned the tax status.
