"Creative Grooming"

Posted by on Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 1:08 PM

Or, as I like to call it, "Emotionally Raping Your Dog for Profit and Pleasure (Mostly Pleasure)."

Exhibit A: "A Poodle Ninja Turtle-Leonardoodle"
leonardoodle.jpg

My condolences to Cindy the poodle (couldn't she at LEAST get to be Donatello?).

(Thanks to my friend Andrew, professional mucker-outer of the internet's batshitcraziest corners.)

When I first read the title of the post and the first two lines, I could only see the lady's hair and was like "aw, it's fug, but it's not that bad...." scrolldown "holy hell! Why does she hate the dog so much!"

Lady, leave the dog alone and become a furry. You're already turtle-shaped yourself and getting laid might improve your mental health.

As the owner of a (normally-groomed) standard poodle, I am horrified. I can't imagine doing this to my dog. Jeezochrist.

Oh, my. That looks like the perfect magazine to leave lying around at the doctor's, barbershop, coffeehouse, etc. Also good for when you're having people over for cocktails.

My Westie puppy is in so much trouble when I get home, and Mummy is away so she can't stop me. Gonna give him a Tartan Kilt.

Generally, I find this type of thing to be mildly appalling, but since it's a poodle I couldn't care less. Wretched little beings.

@9 Once I cutted Dolly's hair, but it never growed back. Why Mommy won't buy me a puppy?

Honestly, if the only thing the dog has to WEAR is the little bandanna thingy (which is probably a bit annoying), I can't imagine she cares at all. The poor ridiculous-looking thing probably enjoys the lavish attention heaped upon her during long grooming sessions, and if she's a typical show dog she loves her time in the limelight as well. While her owner is clearly NUTS she is also ridiculously devoted to her dog, even if her way of expressing it is rather...creative.

@11: a) This is not a 'little' poodle, it's a standard one. b) It's quite possibly smarter than you. c) Raaacist!

It took me a few seconds to realize that was a poodle. I thought I was looking at a furry table or something. Ack.

I don't want the be the guy who points out that pic has been floating around for ever, but if I had to guess, I'd say that dog is probably dead by now.

#20 - I'm only mentioning it because this picture going into even further circulation is making it less special for me. In truth, the only this this post lacks is THREE OTHER DOGS.

someone needs a cha-cha-chia pet.
so help us gawd if she breeds/grooms children as well.

My guess is that they have to sleeve the thing's boner so it doesn't get dye splashed on it.

Lady, it's a dog, not a topiary. Christ somebody call the SPCA.

The ASPCA? This lady has way too much time on her hands, but it's just frickin hair, it'll grow back.

I think most of that's an elaborate doggie costume, instead of a shave and dye job.

The stuff that's shaved and dyed is scary enough, tho.

I have 3 standard poodles and groom them myself. They all have 'hairdos' of some sort, mostly done with different size blades. Hey,,, this is not cool. To put a dog through this much time and process borders on cruel.
Unless... is this a hoax?

oh, whatever. I think it's pretty hilarious and cool. poodles tend to be obsessively groomed anyway, and I think making your dog into a camel is better than making it into a stereotypical poofball. the dog probably loves the attention, it's clear this lady is a professional and not going to hurt it, and it's not like it can complain about looking silly. what's horrifying is people obsessively dressing up/grooming their kids. but a dog? go for it. plus, she clearly adores this animal.
