I keep thinking of the preacher in Paint Your Wagon, singing to the crowd of unrepentant drunks and prostitutes, "Do you wanna go to heaven or go to hell?" and the entire crowd roars back, "Go to hell!"

even worse: oblivion, non-existence, non-being, nothingness. that's one freaky fucking concept. that's the "else" that freaks them out more than hell.
