Republicans Motivate People

Posted by Gillian Anderson on Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 4:10 PM

I was talking to my dad last weekend about the election. I discovered that he voted—something I've never known him to do. He was a foreign correspondent and lived in Asia for 25 years. He always seemed disconnected from U.S. politics and the elections here. He recalled the last time he voted was in the ’70s "for a Socialist candidate who wanted to end the war." Um, that's the Vietnam War he's talking about.

I asked him what had motivated him to finally vote now.
His answer: Sarah Palin.

He was disgusted that someone so obviously unqualified would be in that position and that the Republicans were trying to bamboozle us with this stupid stunt.

Hurray!

This is what motivated me to donate money to Obama.

If I was still in Vancouver BC, I would have voted in this Presidential election, even though while I was there I never voted in two US Presidential elections.

In some ways, 2004 was when this started gathering steam, in that more Americans voted who were living overseas than usual. And with online things like Facebook et al it's kind of hard to pretend you don't know you need to ...

My dad's attitude toward the gays (and most other people) is: "Do what you want, just don't try and tell me about it."

My Dad, a hard-core Economic Republican, retired banker who is moderate on 'social issues' like abortion voted for Obama - the first time he's EVER voted for a Democrat. Direct quote "I'd like to vote for McCain, he's only five or six years older than me but I think he'll die in office leaving that maniac Palin in charge. [Your step-mother] and I will be voting for Obama." I knew then that the election was won.

Obama considering HRC for secretary of state. MSNBC is going with this story all the way and Madow agreed that they wouldn't leak it, then pass her over.....

Pretty amazing how (a) Slog basically ignoring politics now, very little on the Obama decisions re so many former Clinton people coming into white house, and transition team, and now this, and (b) total lack of deluge of criticism of Sloggers who just a few months ago said HRC a liar, HRC = Bush, HRC has terrible foreign policy judgment, etc.

That was all just jive talk, obviously.

And I repeat: it's a smart move to have her inside rather than on the outside of the administration.

Friends close, etc. etc.

Obama seems more and more the perfect Machiavellian with the big smile.

More like FDR than AL, really.

Am lovin' it.

Unity y'all-

PC, they are all rumors that will be debunked tomorrow.

get over yourself. Media reporting on guesses is not news. It's just not, no matter what MSNBC tells you.

It would be fitting for Barack Hussein Obamato appoint a Marxist for Sec. State.

And scary.

The America I served is disappearing fast.

These Marxists are gloing to shut down dissent (talk radio) and may even block conservative websites the way China does.

Basil,

If Obama is a Marxist, I certainly hope he's Stalin to HRC's Trotsky. Putting her back-stabbing ass in the Gulag earns enough kudos from me for four years. Two legs bad!

Basil:

Obamato? Is that like a mutant hybrid tomato that gives you hope for a better future with every bite?
