Bond, the Animation

Posted by Jen Graves on Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 1:00 PM

As for the animation of the new Bond's title sequence, it's serious, not groovy. Bond wanders a desolate landscape of sand dunes with his gun, trying to protect himself from an unseen enemy—when he realizes that the landscape itself is the enemy! Great Scott! Those sand dunes are giant women! Watch it here.

If you like the old title sequences (I never thought of James Bond in terms of this artist before!), here's a good collage of them:

I thought that was awesome. Visually at least. A great Bond opening in a modern interpretation of an old school opening. It's too bad the song is really really bad.

The Q of S theme song SUUUUUCKS!!!

Alicia Keys can play the piano like there's no tomorrow but there isn't a bucket big enough to help her carry a tune.

The theme should have been done by one of the following...
Bjork
Portis Head
Goldfrapp
Interpol

Thank you

Brilliant visuals, AWFUL song. Just bloody awful.

@2 has some interesting ideas for who should do the song but I would add the following for various reasons:

* Grace Jones (has a new album that's AMAZING so timing is good, and she has obvious 007 pedigree)
* Keane (yes, I know, boo hoo hoo, but they are a solid pop band and would do something candy-yummy fun)
* Britney Spears (a major step on the road to redemption; I don't like her that much but a lot of other people seem to)
* Amy Winehouse (see redemption comment above)

And for the option too fabulous to ever happen:

* Paul Weller (more in Style Council mode than Jam...Bond's brand is more smooth than edge, but Craig seems to be taking it more toward the latter so Jam is fine)

I would also nominate Bitter:Sweet to be a FAR better choice. Bjork, Goldfrapp, or Bitter:Sweet would be my choices. Or Grace Jones, because she is crazy like that.

OK...a little Bond opening credits trivia:

During Shirley Bassey's delicious belting of the "Goldfinger" theme song, various scenes in the movie are previewed brilliantly inside the semi-transparent curvaceous bodies of golden girls.

So...what scene preview that appears in the Goldfinger opening credits did NOT actually appear in the film?

And for extra credit: What film is that scene from? Hint: It is a scene widely-copied ever since.
