...J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movie's Enterprise:

Well, it certainly, um, looks Enterprise-y, all right. Apparently, a trailer for the new Star Trek movie will show before The Quantum of Solace, which opens tomorrow. I am eagerly awaiting to see how the new Kirk acts. My hopes are moderately high.

I'm suspicious of the new Kirk. The actor looks way too boy band for Kirk, in the same way that Hayden Christensen was a zillion times too fey to be a young Annakin Skywalker (don't get me started on the annoying moppet from the first/fourth SW film). I'll still go see the movie, though - seeing Sylar as Spock will be worth it. [/geek]

I've seen better (read: more phallic).

This movie will rule. There's a couple links out there from people who've seen preview footage and apparently the responses are good. I trust JJ. He had his Cloverfield, and, according to the Trek Law, the next film should rule. Every even-numbered one being good and stuff.

Also, they cast Spock perfectly. Google it if you're not in the know.

Also: Fuck yah! The "remember my info" check box is back! Thanks, website blog forum system internet!

I am also hoping the new Kirk acts moderately high.

The very concept of this movie rots like pig brains in the jungle.

The new ship design is nice though.

Has there ever been a Kirk vs. Picard poll on Slog? If not, you should put one up! I'm curious.

I don't have high hopes for the new Kirk, however my hopes for Spock are BOUNDLESS. Not to sound like a HUGE Spock-fangirl but I was insanely excited for this film BEFORE I heard Zachary Quinto was to be Spock, now I'm just DYING to see it.

I always thought Kirk was one of the least interesting things about TOS.

Love the Spock casting choice.

the iBridge looks neat and I'm encouraged by most of the casting, but the big question is Kirk. The entire movie is going to rest on this guy and I have no idea if he can do it.

It's like how Detroit tries to make next year's cars look fresh by making them all streamlined, until everyone is so sick of streamlined cars that suddenly hard edges and angles are all the rage. Then they try wings and spoilers, and sometimes even fins. Then big and boxy. Then? Back to streamlined again. That's how it is when you own a car factory that depends on the public buying a new car before the old one is half paid for.

I like the look of the movie so far. It seems brighter than the dark dingy crap that Rick Berman tried to sell as Star Trek since Roddenberry died. I hope it works but with lots of reservations.

The best part of Star Trek is the original Enterprise, and the interaction between the "Holy Trinity" of Trek (Kirk, Spock and McCoy) And McCoy is going to be the toughest character to replace. "That green blooded son of a bitch! This is his revenge for all those arguments he lost! "

Every even-numbered one being good and stuff.

Isn't this one number 11?

#7 Generations
#8 First Contact
#9 Insurrection
#10 Nemesis (gag)

The ship design violates every principle of physics and engineering. It's important to be all streamlined so you can slice through the, uh, vacuum of space.

Perhaps that's the case when traveling sub-light using a standard Tokamak fusion impulse-reaction engines, but streamlining sure helps to smooth out the bumps when you're traveling at 216 times the speed-of-light inside a warp-field bubble generated by a dilithium matrix controlled matter/anti-matter reaction....

I am loving the idea of Simon Pegg as Scotty. And McCoy is played by Karl Urban, so if nothing else, I can hope McCoy is required to take his shirt off (or have it torn off) and some point. Maybe his pants too. Hey, I can hope!

@18 Technically this is a prequel and not the next sequential film in the series, so it could arguably be called #0. Whether you consider that an even number or not is a different matter.

Nemesis kind of broke the Trek Movie Law anyway. I think this one will kick ass.

Bones was always my favorite. But Spock grew on me and I think in the end they tied. I am sooooo excited about this. There is so much potential for awesomeness (not the hot dog kind).

@23: Stop, you're getting me all hot with that tech talk! I've loved Spock since I was a little girl, and can't WAIT to see Zachary Quinto in the role.
