"It's an Amazing Feeling. It's Our First Colored President."

Posted by Lindy West on Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 5:01 PM

So says Lindsay Lohan.

lohan_vanity_fair.jpg

NEW YORK (AP) — Lindsay Lohan referred to President-elect Barack Obama as the country's "first colored president" in an interview on "Access Hollywood." Describing her experience on Election Day, Lohan said: "It was really exciting. It's an amazing feeling. It's our first colored president."

A spokeswoman for Lohan didn't immediately return messages left Wednesday.

Interviewer Maria Menounos didn't question the 22-year-old actress on her use of the term. "Access Hollywood" also didn't cite her remark in its online story, but did post an "extended interview" video on its Web site that included the remark.

A spokesman for the syndicated entertainment news program said in a statement Wednesday: "We believe the word in question that Ms. Lohan used was unintelligible."

Lohan blogged about her support of Obama during the presidential campaign.

Oh, Lohan. I love you.

So, what, "President of color" would have been preferable?

It's hilarious how "progressives" just love to use the term "people of color" but they take total wadded-panties offense at the term "colored people". NewSpeak at its finest.

DOUBLEPLUSGOOD for you!!!

She also said she was for prop 8 "for tax purposes"...WHAT!? Beyond the issue of her claiming to not be a lesbian, how are you pro-prop 8, "for tax reasons"?

@4 - Who the fuck do you know that actually uses the term "people of colour"? Give me a break.

Since when is 'colored people' offensive? Is only the NAACP allowed to say it or something?

Dude, that is not the preferred nomenclature.

#14 FTW!

I'm having trouble reducing cognitive dissonance between "freckles" and "Lindsay Lohan," myself.

Does this make white people "people of colour-less" and "Colored-less People"?

@ 16 - I actually googled "People of Color" and it came back with about 4% of the total hits that "African American" got. Actually, "nigger" had twice as many hits as "People of Color.

I have been hearing "people of color" all over the news media, I don't know where the rest of you have been.

I like calling them "spades."

As a card-carrying Black Dude, I can say authoritatively that the term "colored" doesn't really offend me. More than anything else it just connotes a lack of IRL exposure to/interaction with black people.

What's that movie where Brendan Fraser basically grows up in his parents' bomb shelter? And then they get out and it's the 90s? This totally reminds me of the only line I remember from that film: "Oh my stars, a negro!"

hmmm. I don't think I care. Way too many offensive things going on in this world to take offense at someone's phraseology where it is clearly not meant in a derogatory manner. And by the way, on a recent trip to NYC my spouse and I sat right behind, and I mean right behind, Lindsay and her gal at the play Spring Awakening. She's a way cool chick in my book. Much to cool to care about all the little ears that are hurt when her words aren't sufficiently pc.

So yeh, I thought the Prop 8 thing with the taxes was a little weird too...but she at least read information about Melissa Ethridge's stance on the decision. Also, if people paid attention she started out saying she found out about the election outcome in bed...and then later in the discussion talked about her and Samantha rushing home from their friend's house to watch it (read: Sam and I were in bed watching the elections). That was also the same way they found out about the plane crash they discussed on Lovelines when Lindsay initially talked about being with Samantha. Hmmm...sounds like the spend lots of time in bed together! ;)

I think 26 nails it.

Also, hot? Definitely not. That picture is cool artistically, but I find it not just a-sexual but unsexy. Ms. Lohan has no curves. I'm not saying I wouldn't have sex with her, cause I'd fuck just about anything with two legs and a vagina (yes, bonobos too), but I'd rather see a woman what got some back.

Look up Lohan's appearance on SNL as Hermoine in a Harry Potter skit. She was SMOKAN HAWT before she cracked out and dyed her hair blonde.

A 19-year-old girl I know also used the term "colored people" the other day and didn't seem to know it was inappropriate! Kids today! Or should I say, "ignorant self-centered young women today"?

I think colored has come back around, actually. Probably because of "people of color". Colored was never offensive, NAACP hasn't chanced their name, but it was just antiquated.
