2008 Today in Right-Wingedness

My least favorite conservative blog is Atlas Shrugs. The blogger is a batshit crazy, Muslim-hating Ayn Rand fan. So of course, because I hate myself, I read the goddamned thing every day.

She's been pushing this bullshit Obama's-not-an-American-citizen narrative since Obama won the nomination. Today she's making her readers e-mail a judge who's hearing some phony-ass case about Obama's citizenship. And she also links to Andrew Martin's blog post, which says "Barack Obama is not Barack Obama," but is rather the son of someone named Frank Marshall Davis. The post continually refers to "negroes," so you know it's impartial and objective.

Apparently, Martin is in Hawaii to file for Obama's "real birth records." Hawaii is where Obama's sick grandmother is. Martin says:

Obama suddenly announced Monday his grandmother had been gravely ill for weeks. He has his own plane. All he had to do is tell the pilot to file a flight plan for Honolulu and take off. He's the king of his own armada.

But instead of rushing to his grandmother's bedside, Obama is waiting until I leave Honolulu before he lands.

Ask yourself, "What would I do?" What would you do if you had your own plane and mom or dad suddenly took ill? Would you tell the pilot to set course for Hawai'i, or tell him to wait three (3!) days before coming to your relative's bedside? How sick is she if Obama is will to delay his "emergency" for three days?

This entire episode is becoming curiouser and curiouser.

But you can't win for losing: The Atlas Shrugs lady, of course, thinks Obama's grandmother is a sissy for allowing Obama to visit her:

Obama dropped everything in the last two weeks of a heated Presidential campaign to visit his sick grandma in Hawaii today (any grandma worth her salt would have said, "don't be silly, win the presidency and visit me in two weeks).

And her commenters have more to say: "Did Hitler have as much help from the news media of his day as Obama is getting from our corrupt MSM??" They also link to an essay by Orson Scott Card (who, incidentally, is a hateful homophobe, and a diehard Republican McCain supporter) that was read by Rush Limbaugh on the air today. The Card essay claims the media is "the public relations machine of the Democratic Party."

Here is the moral of the story: There is no moral of the story, but conservative blogs are totally losing their shit.

If this were coming out of eight years of impotent rage at the current Democratic administration, I'd be a little more inclined to pity. Actually, no I wouldn't; these people are crazy bastards who hate their fellow Americans.

What gets me is that this guy Martin thinks he's so important that Obama even knows he's in Hawaii. I'm sure someone in the Dem party is following the batshit crazy people on the right. But I don't think it's on Obama's Top 5.

obama is about to be president of the planet. if he wants to go see his dying grandma on thursday & friday 2 weeks before the election, even if its' just to make sure his head's screwed on straight (and that's probably it, frankly), then eat shit, "objectivists". he knows the value of self-care. obama is WAY more howard roark than mccain any day of the fucking century.

my thoughts exactly. while i don't have much love for Rand, i imagine she is spinning in her grave. I thought this was cleared up by the fact that Obama's mother was raised in the US, so he could have been born on f'ing Mars and still be a US citizen, right?

Poor Martin must be having conniption-fits today, given his fellow Objectivist Alan Greenspan just publicly admitted some of the fundamental precepts of his economic world-view have failed spectacularly in the current crisis. Regardless, I've given up on these idiots; all their whinging about the "liberal media" - while Hannity, Novak, Weiner, Limbaugh, Malkin et al, some of the most popular pundits around (or so their press releases keep touting) echo these wails of victimization. Fuck 'em, fuck 'em all, Paul.

@12: He'd still be a "natural-born citizen" which is the constitutional requirement. In any case, there's a valid birth certificate and a contemporous announcement of birth in a local newspaper. They'd have better luck proving Bush crashed the planes into the twin towers himself.

I have tried to stay off the right wing blogs because those people are scary... yet they are the ones who are going to flip the fuck out when Obama wins and start riots... and they are the ones with the guns who are willing to shoot them to "save America"

@11- The story is so clearly made up. 1) A white woman who is terrified of blacks ends up on the "wrong side" of Philly while looking for an ATM? Yeah right. 2) A 6'4 black man weighing 200lbs takes time from robbing her to carve a PERFECT capital letter "B" onto her(non-struggling?)face? Yeah right. Her story is ridiculous and sad.

I'm not a fan of objectivism but any casual reader of Ayn Rand knows that she would have as many problems with the Republicans ties to the Christian right as she would the Democrats collectivist tendencies.

I actually love his books and was disappointed to read this in the SLOG. Being anti-gay seems so contrary to the themes of his books, especially Ender's Game (if he can find compassion for and humanity in other species, you would think that it would not be such a stretch for him to do the same for his real gay brothers and sisters). Then I went and read this article by him, http://mormontimes.com/mormon_voices/orson_scott_card/?id=3234, and while it is not exactly the best,it does not make him out to be as anti-gay as this post seems to say that he is.
