Seattle Police have shut down Third Avenue between Cherry and Columbia as they search the area for a bank robbery suspect.

Police describe the suspect as a white male in his 30s, about 5'7.

I'll update if more info becomes available.

Thanks to Slog-tipper Brian for the pic.

Update: FBI spokeswoman Robbie Burroughs says the robber "left behind a backpack and a note that said something about a bomb."

Officers have cleared the building above the bank.

SPD says no one was injured in the robbery.

UPDATE 2: 3rd Ave has been reopened.

I'm in that building. Why do they need a bomb robot to find a bank robber?

Maybe the robber didn't hear the news that the bailout failed.

Which building? Did they evacuate?

The Pacific, across the street from the bank. No evacuations, but foot traffic restricted.

hm - I'm working in the building behind it on 2nd, and our facilities staff called it a "hostage situation". I'm hearing all sorts of conflicting info, just wanted to throw that in.

Someone give Fnarf a rimshot please.

Also, if you're a bus commuter you should know that right now it's completely fucked downtown. Many buses use that stretch of 3rd, so they're backed up to first hill. My advice: Get out on 5th and walk to wherever you're going.

Oh scratch that. Update: Police say not a hostage situation, but a possible bomb threat near Money Tree. They said it was not necessary for us to evacuate.

Apparently the robber got on the 120 which plies the concrete down Delridge Way. He got off in Burien. Maybe now that part of King County will see some improvements.

Why would anyone rob a bank now? They don't have any money in them anymore.

While bank robberies are interesting, nothing tops a football post in my (play)book!

That's a pretty vague description. I'm a white male in my 30's and I'm 5'8". Thank god I went the other direction for coffee on my 10am break.
