Sydney Brownstone is reporting from North Dakota this week on a historic gathering of ninety Native American tribes, including eight from Washington, to protect the environment and sacred burial sites against the Dakota Access Pipeline project.

It's the largest gathering of its kind in more than a century.

President Obama was asked today what he's doing to help the tribes by a student in Laos. Obama clearly didn't know what she was talking about:

Yesterday, two tribal members locked themselves down to construction equipment to slow down the pipeline's progress. For more updates, keep an eye on Slog and follow Sydney on Twitter.

Former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has declared his opposition to the pipeline. Hillary Clinton hasn't said anything about it, though her website includes a pledge to "Protect Tribal Assets and Resources."
