The first official presidential debates are coming up on September 26th, which means it's time for Jill Stein to stand up for Democracy by getting arrested on camera.

You can watch video of her arrest at the last cycle's presidential debates on this morning's edition of Democracy Now, where the Green Party presidential candidate and folk-rock legend also argued forcefully against the rules imposed by the Commission on Presidential Debates.

The rules: You must be on enough ballots to win a majority, and you must have at least 15 percent support in an average of five national polls. Right now, Stein is on the ballot in 29 states. If she won all of them, she could win 270. But the polling isn't going so well.

She claims that she's up to "6 and even 7 percent in the polls," though she tops out at 4 percent on the ones tracked by RealClearPolitics.

Also, in Texas, she's losing by a point to a 15-year-old boy named Brady C. Olson, a.k.a. Deez Nuts. And she's tied with a dead gorilla:

Therein lies one of the great sadnesses of American democracy. Right now in Texas, more people would rather throw away their vote than support Jill Stein. I know it's Texas, but still. She at least has to do better than the people who think democracy is a joke. If she and the Green Party want to do better, here's a helpful tip.
