The offices at Seattle Shakes flooded on July 10th, according to managing director John Bradshaw. It sounds pretty bad:

The water poured in for several hours. Sink water (water mixed with soda, coffee and grease) from two restaurants swamped our workplace. Water levels on the floor were probably an inch and a half high in the worst affected areas.

This is by far the worst water damage accident that we’ve ever encountered. Nearly every office was impacted. Water soaked and ruined our carpets. Some computers no longer function. Archives are water-logged and lost for good. We will feel the loss and cost of this horrible incident for years.

The greatest lost may be in the time as we are staging our Wooden O summer parks productions and preparing for a new indoor season that has its first performance on September 7.

What can you do to help? Donate some $$$. Become a subscriber to Seattle Shakes. If you don't have any money but you do have some time and a need to show your affection for a great theatrical institution, you can go see a free Wooden O show.

The only performances they have coming up soon are Love's Labour's Lost and Hamlet, which are free and happening in parks all over Seattle. Meme Garcia is playing Ophelia in Hamlet, and she's brought a lot of high energy and talent to the 487 shows that I've seen her in this year. Go watch her give the Prince of Denmark the business.
