This DJ night may very well give you Chills.

If you live long enough, you'll witness a DJ event for practically every niche imaginable. So it's not too surprising that a night devoted to underground music from New Zealand is happening at Pony Bar (Thursday June 30, 10 pm, free, 21+). DJ Sling Dion (aka Kiwi transplant Richard Priest) presents Delightful Isolation: A History of Underground New Zealand Music. Priest says that he will "largely play the NZ psychedelic deviations of the '60s/'70s, Maori-pop, the Dunedin/Wellington sound of the '70s/'80s/'90s, and some treasures from the '90s till now." Unfortunately, Delightful Isolation will likely be a one-off event, so if you're at all curious about this largely overlooked sector of the music world, you should make it a priority to attend. After the jump, sample a few songs Priest has supplied as exemplars of what to expect. I didn't know any of the artists, which is a promising omen for the night. Priest is going deep into this music and his taste appears to be impeccable.
