Earlier this week, Uber announced it would shut down operations in Bremerton, saying that requiring its drivers, who are independent contractors, to obtain a $75/year business license would make it "impossible" for its ride-hailing servicce.

But the spat between Bremerton city officials and the multi-billion dollar tech giant was short lived. According to Uber spokesman Michael Amodeo, the company will reopen its services in the city at 2 p.m. today.

According to the Kitsap Sun, "after consulting the city attorney's office, Uber officials found no such barriers to operating in the city."

The city requires a $75 business license, as well as a state business license. Otherwise, Bremerton does not regulate ridesharing services under its taxicab regulations.

"We thank the city for providing greater clarity around recently approved rideshare regulations, and regret any confusion this may have caused riders or drivers. We look forward to resuming pick ups and drop offs in Bremerton," Amodeo wrote in an email.
