According to The Seattle Times, dry weather and high temperatures led to an early start to Washington's fire season this year. Just last week, two wildfires broke out in Snohomish County – the Proctor Creek wildfire in Gold Bar and the Hot Shot fire in Oso.

Thankfully, the Gold Bar fire was contained yesterday.

From the Times:

Continued cool weather after a damp weekend brought success to fire crews working on the Proctor Creek fire, near Gold Bar, which was declared 100 percent contained on Tuesday morning, according to a spokesman for the crews battling two Snohomish County fires.

Spokesman Randall Shepard said the Proctor Creek fire was estimated to have burned 289 acres, down from the projection on Monday of more than 350 acres.

And more good news from the Washington State Department of Natural Resources:

More details from The Herald:

[The Hot Shot fire] covered up to 130 acres over the weekend but was knocked down to 67 acres by Monday and remained that size Tuesday morning. Firefighters have the Hot Shot blaze 75 percent contained, up from 50 percent on Monday. Teams were working Tuesday morning on creating a 100-foot buffer within the containment lines.
