Last week, Target reaffirmed its commitment to support its LGBT guests and made it clear that they would respect transgender employees and guests by welcoming them "to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity."

So, naturally, members of a group promoting itself as a "family" organization are losing their shit. According to KPLU, the American Family Association, which is recognized as an anti-LGBT extremist group, is calling on bigots around the country to boycott Target.

The group created a petition for Target to create a single stall bathroom in all of their stores where trans employees and guests can change and use the restroom. The petition, which includes language like "A man can simply say he 'feels like a woman today,'" has already secured nearly 716,000 signatures.

UGH.

Thankfully, Target representatives are standing their ground, KPLU writes.

Target spokeswoman Molly Snyder wrote in an email that there are "single-stall/family restrooms in hundreds of our stores for guests that may be more comfortable with that option."

Asked about the petition, Snyder also said:

"We certainly respect that there are a wide variety of perspectives and opinions. As a company that firmly stands behind what it means to offer our team an inclusive place to work — and our guests an inclusive place to shop — we continue to believe that this is the right thing for Target."

Meanwhile, in Washington: The Just Want Privacy campaign began collecting signatures on its anti-trans bathroom bill initiative (No. 1515) to qualify for the ballot. More details here.
