Parks nerds, ASSEMBLE!

Freeway Park and Gas Works are featured in 10 Parks That Changed America, a PBS documentary celebrating the evolution of parks across the U.S. Locals can check out a special screening and panel discussion at University of Washington on March 30th. (Check out the trailer here.)

Why these two parks over all the city's other outdoor spaces? Because, even though we might forget, they are actually pretty badass.

Seattlish reminds us why:

Freeway Park was the first park in the country to lid an interstate (and possibly won’t be the last to do so in the Emerald City) and was hailed as a major architectural and engineering accomplishment. Also, there is a lady who takes her tortoise for daily walks in it so that’s pretty dope.

Gas Works is cool not only because it was in 10 Things I Hate About You but also because the City took a toxic waste site and made it a spot for families and kids to play. Genius!

If you can't join the parks geekery next Wednesday, the doc airs April 12th on KCTS 9.
