Beacon Hill Station is a handsome building but its elevators are kind of funny. Charles Mudede

The time when I passed Dick's on Broadway was exactly 5:45 p.m.. I entered the Capitol Hill Station, was informed by a hanging computer screen that the train would arrive in three minutes. By the time I reached the platform, the train was arriving (three cars!).

At 6:02 p.m., I was crossing Beacon Avenue and walking toward the Red Apple Market to buy a few items (coffee and fruit). In fact, if the train had not been delayed by bus traffic in the downtown tunnel, I may have found myself examining the clusters of grapes on offer sooner.

In Battlestar Galactica (the TV Series between 2004 and 2009—and one of the greatest TV shows ever made), there is this dizzying business of jumping around deep space (you are here... and now you are there, and there is many light years from where here just was). Using Link today felt like jumping across, collapsing the spaces of, a big city.
